It is the only vocational college in Fujian Province with water conservancy and electric power as its main professional characteristics, and coordinated development of mechanical and electrical, electronic information, construction, rail transit and economic management majors. It is listed as a national quality junior college, a national quality water conservancy higher vocational college and a Fujian Province Demonstration Modern Vocational College, and has been selected as a construction unit of the "Fujian Province Double College Plan". The school originated from the "Private Putian Vocational Middle School" founded in Putian in 1929. In 1956, it was taken over by the Fujian Provincial People's Government and moved to Yong'an, and renamed "Fujian Water Conservancy School"; in 1958, it was upgraded to a junior college and renamed "Fujian Water Conservancy and Electric Power College"; in 1960, it was upgraded to an undergraduate program and renamed "Fujian Water Conservancy and Electric Power College"; in 1980, it was identified as the first batch of national key secondary technical schools; in 2003, it was restored to a junior college and renamed to its current name. In the nearly 100-year history of vocational education, the school has adhered to the school motto of "pursuing skills and advocating civilization", and has trained nearly 200,000 talents in water conservancy, electricity and other industries for the country, and enjoys the reputation of "Fujian Water Conservancy and Electric Power Talent Cradle" in the society. The school currently has Yong'an Campus, Fuzhou Campus, Huangli Campus and Xiamen Base, covering a total area of 1,741.89 acres. It has 7 secondary colleges including the School of Water Conservancy Engineering, the School of Electric Power Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Automation Engineering, the School of Transportation Engineering and the School of Economics and Management, as well as the Department of Public Basics and the School of Marxism. There are 254 on-campus and off-campus training bases, including 95 on-campus training grounds (rooms), 73 training bases supported by central and provincial finances, and 3 national-level productive training bases. The "digital campus" has been implemented and a smart campus integrating teaching, scientific research, management and services has been initially built. The school has a reasonable distribution of majors, and the scale of school operation has continued to grow steadily. There are 48 majors, covering nine major categories of majors, including water conservancy, energy power and materials, civil engineering, electronic information, and equipment manufacturing. Among them, 4 national key majors, 1 national water conservancy vocational education demonstration major, 2 majors supported by the central government to enhance the professional service industry development capabilities, 5 provincial demonstration vocational colleges key construction majors, 5 provincial quality majors, 8 provincial demonstration majors, 4 provincial service industry characteristic professional groups, 3 provincial industry-education integration demonstration majors, and 3 IEET engineering and technology education certification majors have been established. 1 national quality resource sharing course, 1 national quality course, 1 national online quality course, and 13 provincial quality courses have been established; presided over and participated in the construction of 6 course resources of the national professional teaching resource library, presided over the construction of 5 provincial professional teaching resource libraries, presided over the construction of 28 provincial quality online open courses, and presided over and participated in the revision and formulation of 4 "higher vocational school professional teaching standards" of the Ministry of Education. The school attaches great importance to the accumulation of students' technical skills and has established a four-level competition system at the college, school, province and country levels. It has achieved remarkable results in national and provincial and ministerial vocational skills competitions and has shown a good upward trend in quantity and award level. It has won a total of 978 provincial and ministerial awards and national industry awards, and 348 people have won 191 first prizes and above. Among them, Hu Manling won the silver medal in the jewelry processing project of the World Skills Competition, won the national title of "Technical Expert" and was selected for the Chinese training team. Over the years, the school has taken many measures to stabilize employment, actively expand employment channels, and strengthen policy support for employment and entrepreneurship. The school has a high rate of graduates' employment placement and has been rated as "Fujian Province's Excellent University for Employment Evaluation" and "Fujian Province's Advanced Unit for Graduate Employment and Entrepreneurship". There is 1 national "double-qualified" teacher training base, 1 provincial "double-qualified" teacher training base, 5 provincial excellent teaching teams, 3 provincial vocational college teacher teaching innovation teams, 1 provincial skill master studio, 7 school-level teacher teaching innovation teams, 3 school-level skill master studios, and 6 famous teacher studios. The school has built 20 industry-university-research technology service platforms of various levels and types, including the Academician Expert Workstation and the Tsinghua University Haixi Water Conservancy Comprehensive Practice Base (National Academician Expert Demonstration Workstation, Fujian Academician Expert Demonstration Station), the Digital Watershed Fujian Higher Education Applied Technology Engineering Center, the Fujian Vocational College Smart Water Conservancy Application Technology Collaborative Innovation Center (Action Plan for the Innovation and Development of Higher Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education), the Fujian Vocational College Power Battery Material Application Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, and the Fujian Excellent Water Conservancy Science Education Base. The faculty and staff of the school have published 1,699 papers in journals above CN, including 3 SSCI (Zone 1) papers and 24 SCI international authoritative papers. 267 higher vocational and technical textbooks have been compiled and officially published, including 140 edited, 5 of which have been rated as national planning textbooks for vocational education, and 1 "National Excellent Textbook Second Prize" of the first National Textbook Construction Award, 1 special prize of provincial (ministerial) teaching achievement awards, 5 first prizes, and 9 second prizes. The school has won 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes in the Fujian Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award, and 1 Ministry of Water Resources Advanced Practical Promotion Technology Award. Since 2008, the school’s faculty and staff have been approved for 413 projects of various types at or above the municipal and departmental levels (including 3 projects from the Ministry of Education, 5 projects from the Ministry of Water Resources, 3 projects from the China Vocational Education Society, 3 projects from the National Electric Power Industry Steering Committee, and 2 projects on water conservancy vocational education research); since 2015, the school has undertaken more than 190 horizontal projects; 323 national patents have been authorized (including 12 invention patents and 2 European invention patents), and 233 software copyrights. The school has several external technical service platforms, including the Fujian Hydropower Training Center and Fujian Water Resources Institute Technology Service Co., Ltd., providing the society with technical services and consultation in water conservancy, electricity, soil and water conservation, etc. It is a training base for the Fujian migrant workers' "Dream-Fulfilling Study" project, a provincial vocational teacher training base, a subsidized free vocational skills training school in Fujian Province, an education and training institution for retired military personnel in Fujian Province, and an employment and entrepreneurship park for retired military personnel in Fujian Province. It cooperates with the Construction Management and Quality Safety Center of the Ministry of Water Resources, water conservancy bureaus, power supply bureaus, power companies and other government departments or enterprises in the province to carry out high-skill, new technology training assessment and professional skill level certification work such as "Assessment of Safety Production Management Personnel of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Construction Enterprises". The school has carried out extensive school-enterprise and school-school cooperation, and vigorously promoted the integration of school resources, professional structure adjustment, curriculum system reform, internship and training mode and talent training mode reform, forming a pattern of foreign cooperation and exchange with complementary advantages and mutual benefit. We have opened the "Minjiang International Class" with China Water Resources 16th Bureau and the "BRICS Class" with China Power Construction; we have cooperated with Fujian Water Investment Group, Fujian Hengan Group, China Heavy Duty Truck, Jianxin Group and others to carry out "dual system" school-running, and have widely carried out cooperative school-running with large and medium-sized enterprises such as State Grid Fuzhou, Quanzhou Power Supply Company, Mindong Power Company, Xiamen Rail Transit, Fuzhou Metro Group, Xiamen San'an Group, and Ningde New Energy.
