Gannan Medical University is located in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, a famous revolutionary old base. It is a full-time general higher medical undergraduate college organized by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province. Professor Han Jisheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serves as the honorary president. The predecessor of the school was the Jiangxi Provincial Ganxian Advanced Midwifery Vocational School founded in 1941. It was renamed the Jiangxi Provincial Ganxian Advanced Medical Vocational School in 1947. In 1958, it was established as a junior college Gannan Medical College. In 1988, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college and renamed Gannan Medical College. In 2013, it was approved as a master's degree-granting institution. Since 2019, it has jointly trained doctoral students with Soochow University and China Medical University. In 2021, it was approved as a key construction unit for the newly added doctoral degree-granting authority in Jiangxi Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan". In November 2023, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed Gannan Medical University. The school covers a total area of more than 2,600 acres and has three campuses: Huangjin, Zhanggong, and Longnan. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 329 million yuan. The library has a paper collection of 1.4341 million books and an electronic collection of 2.3156 million books. There are 3 directly affiliated hospitals (the first affiliated hospital is one of the first 74 national clinical teaching and training demonstration centers and one of the top 100 hospitals in China), and 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals. There are 15,926 full-time students. There are 936 full-time teachers, 599 of whom have senior professional and technical positions (including 110 professors), and 311 teachers with doctoral degrees. The school currently has 32 undergraduate majors, including 2 national specialty majors (clinical medicine and anesthesiology), 2 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites (clinical medicine, nursing), 11 first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Jiangxi Province (clinical medicine, applied psychology, pharmacy, nursing, anesthesiology, medical imaging, medical imaging technology, preventive medicine, medical laboratory technology, rehabilitation therapy, public utilities management), 4 specialty majors in Jiangxi universities (public utilities management, nursing, preventive medicine, sports human science); there are 2 first-class disciplines in Jiangxi Province (clinical medicine, public health and preventive medicine), of which the clinical medicine discipline is in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking; there are 4 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees (clinical medicine, basic medicine, pharmacy, biomedical engineering), and 6 master's professional degree authorization points (clinical medicine, nursing, public health, applied psychology, medical technology, biology and medicine). The school focuses on the improvement of connotation and has now developed into a "double first-class" university in Jiangxi Province with three major disciplines, namely medicine, science and engineering, multidisciplinary integration, and outstanding school characteristics and advantages. The school passed the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2007, the first batch of 13th in the country to pass the undergraduate clinical medicine certification of the Ministry of Education in 2013, passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2018, and passed the nursing certification of the Ministry of Education in 2023. As of 2022, the passing rate of the medical practitioner qualification examination for graduates of the school's clinical medicine major has been higher than the national average for 17 consecutive years. The school has good teaching and research conditions, and has built a national key laboratory for the discovery of new drug targets for major diseases and the creation of new drugs, and a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; there are 24 provincial scientific research platforms such as the Soviet Health and Health China Construction Research Center and the Jiangxi Provincial Cerebrovascular Pharmacology Key Laboratory. Together with the Ganzhou Municipal Government, the Zhanggong District Government and a team of high-level experts at home and abroad, the Gannan Innovation and Translational Medicine Research Institute was established. In recent years, it has won more than 200 national fund projects, 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award, and 41 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards; related achievements have been published in international top journals such as "Cell", "Lancet oncology", "European Urology", "Hepatology", "Nature Communications", "Chemical Reviews", and 370 authorized patents. It has formed its own characteristics and advantages in the fields of new targets for the prevention and treatment of ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, immunological mechanisms of intestinal inflammation, cancer and metabolic diseases, development of oil tea medicine and functional products, research and development of characteristic Chinese herbal medicines in southern Jiangxi, and research on health and healthy China construction in the Soviet area. So far, it has trained and delivered nearly 110,000 health and health talents at all levels to the society, becoming the health guardians of the people and making important contributions to the development of health and health. The First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical University has become the clinical teaching base of Lincoln Memorial University in the United States. The school has established a teacher and student training base at Lincoln Memorial University in the United States and is a cooperative unit with the German Heart Center (Berlin). In 2005, it began to recruit international students to China, and the quality of training has been well received by the source countries.
