Gansu University of Political Science and Law is a provincial general undergraduate college of political science and law in Gansu Province, with law as its characteristic and advantage, and also has disciplines such as management, engineering, literature, economics, and art. It is the earliest provincial undergraduate political science and law college in the country. The school is one of the first batch of national outstanding legal talent education and training bases, the second batch of national colleges and universities practice education innovation and entrepreneurship education bases, and a member of the "Lige Alliance" of national political science and law colleges. The predecessor of the school was the Gansu Provincial Political and Legal Cadre School founded in 1956. It was originally located at No. 4 Ziyou Road, Lanzhou City. In 1969, it was renamed the Beiwan 57 Cadre School of the Gansu Provincial Revolutionary Committee and moved to Beiwan, Jingyuan County. In 1984, Gansu Institute of Political Science and Law was officially established and moved to Anning West Road, Lanzhou City, and started general higher education. In 2006, it obtained the qualification of a master's degree awarding unit, started postgraduate education in 2007, and started international student education in 2017. In the same year, it was determined to be a project construction unit for the award of doctoral degrees in Gansu Province. In June 2019, it was renamed Gansu University of Political Science and Law. The school adheres to the school motto of "respecting morality, understanding law, and upholding justice". After 68 years of hard work, it has trained more than 130,000 outstanding talents of various types for the party and the country, and has provided a large number of legal talents for the society. It is the main force of legal education and legal talent training in the western part of the motherland. Graduates are spread across party and government organs, public security, procuratorial, judicial and other departments. From Shannan to Haibei, from sea level to the roof of the world, tens of thousands of Gansu Law University graduates have taken root in the border defense of the motherland, and with their strong patriotic feelings and tenacious hard work, they have won the reputation of "Gansu political border guards". The school has good conditions for running a school. There are currently two campuses, Anning West Road Campus in Lanzhou City and Lanzhou New District Campus. The campus covers a total area of 1,066.59 acres and the school building area is 452,300 square meters. There are more than 1.57 million paper books and more than 900,000 electronic books. The total value of various teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is more than 113.55 million yuan. It has 15 colleges and recruits students from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country. There are currently 14,029 full-time students, including 12,029 undergraduates and 2,000 postgraduates. It has 6 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 11 provincial teaching teams, 30 professional teaching undergraduate laboratories and training rooms (centers), and 283 internship and training bases inside and outside the school. The school currently has 42 undergraduate majors, 3 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points in law, business administration, and cyberspace security, 19 second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 9 professional master's degree authorization points. There are 4 national first-class undergraduate professional construction points such as law and information security, and 10 provincial first-class professional construction points. At the same time, there are 3 provincial first-class disciplines, among which the law discipline is a dominant discipline in Gansu Province, and the two disciplines of evidence science and business administration are characteristic disciplines in Gansu Province. There are 8 provincial key disciplines. The school has a high-quality faculty team that is adapted to the disciplines and majors, with more than 60% of teachers having senior professional titles, and more than 90% of teachers having doctoral and master's degrees. Among the faculty, there is one expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, one national outstanding teacher, one selected into the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, four members of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, one young talent in propaganda, ideology and culture of the Central Propaganda Department, four talents in the "Four Batches" of the Gansu Provincial Propaganda and Culture System, one outstanding expert in Gansu Province, nine leading talents in Gansu Province, five "Feitian Scholars" in Gansu Province, three young talents in Longyuan, 12 famous teachers in Gansu Province, seven winners of the Gansu Province "Gardener Award", 26 winners of the Gansu Province Young Teachers Achievement Award, and one winner of the Gansu Province Foreign Expert "Dunhuang Award". The school has strong scientific research capabilities. It has established 14 research bases approved by provinces, ministries, and bureaus, including the Lanzhou Base of the National Judicial Civilization Collaborative Innovation Center, the Gansu Provincial Research Center for Promoting Social Governance in Accordance with the Law, and the Gansu Digital Rule of Law Industry Research Institute. There are 5 independently established research institutions, 67 non-established research institutions at the school level, and 4 provincial scientific research innovation teams. In the past five years, the scientific research results have won 30 awards at the provincial and ministerial levels or above, 5 first prizes and 6 second prizes for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences in Gansu Province. From 2019 to 2023, it won 140 scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels or above, including 27 national social sciences and national natural sciences. The school sponsors two professional academic journals, "Journal of Gansu University of Political Science and Law" and "Western Law Review", of which "Journal of Gansu University of Political Science and Law" was selected as a source journal of the CSSCI extended version. The school adheres to the principle of open education and actively carries out exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad. It has established cooperative exchanges with foreign universities such as the University of Wolverhampton in the UK, the University of Central Oklahoma in the United States, St. Petersburg University in Russia, the University of Law in Kazakhstan, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and domestic universities such as Jilin University and Qingdao University, and has established counterpart support relations with China University of Political Science and Law. The school has joined the Asian Forensic Science Association and is a founding member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Law University Alliance. The school actively plays its disciplinary and professional advantages, actively serves the construction of the rule of law and local economic and social development, and actively provides strong practical talent support for the implementation of the national strategy of governing the country according to law and governing Xinjiang, Tibet and borders; effectively plays the role of think tanks of humanities and social sciences research bases, and provides intellectual support for the decision-making of party committees and governments; actively carries out comparative studies on the rule of law in different countries, and serves the construction of the "Silk Road Economic Belt"; gives full play to the functions of scientific research service platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Evidence Science Research and Application, the Judicial Appraisal Center, the Criminal Psychological Testing Center, the Safe Gansu Construction Research Institute, and the Theoretical Research Center for the Construction of the Rule of Law Gansu, promotes the transformation and application of scientific research results, and plays an important role in the construction of fair justice, the construction of a safe Gansu, and the construction of a rule of law Gansu.
