After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Guangdong, as the birthplace of the Chinese workers' movement, saw the flourishing of the trade union cause. Trade unions at all levels in Guangdong Province urgently needed to train a large number of educated and qualified trade union cadres. In the autumn of 1952, the Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions, which was still in the preparation stage, established the Guangdong Trade Union Cadre School. In 1960, the Guangdong Trade Union Cadre School was abolished. In 1963, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee approved the establishment of the Guangdong Workers, Youths and Women's Cadre School. In 1971, the Guangdong Provincial Revolutionary Committee ordered the abolition of the Provincial Workers, Youths and Women's Cadre School. It was not until 1980 that the Guangdong Trade Union Cadre School was officially restored, using the Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions Guesthouse as a school venue. In 1986, the Tianpingjia Campus in Tianhe District, Guangzhou City was completed and put into use, covering an area of 32 acres, changing the state of "preparing and running classes at the same time" and becoming the training center base for trade union cadres in Guangdong Province. On July 19, 1993, after in-depth research and multi-party demonstration, the Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions Cadre School founded the first private college in Guangdong Province, the private Nanhua Industrial and Commercial College, on its basis, embarking on a 24-year exploration of the new system of public-private schools. The Cadre School and Nanhua have long implemented "two brands and one team", assuming the two functions of trade union cadre training and academic education. On August 23, 2016, with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, the school's nature of operation was changed from private to public. On May 10, 2017, the General Office of the Ministry of Education officially issued a document, announcing the list of vocational education colleges and universities that passed the filing of the Ministry of Education in 2017, agreeing that the school would be converted into a public institution and renamed "Guangdong Nanhua Industrial and Commercial Vocational College". The school currently has three campuses: Tianhe Campus (Shatai South Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou), Huangpu Campus (Changzhou Island, Huangpu District), and Qingyuan Campus (Provincial Vocational Education City, Qingcheng District, Qingyuan). The campus covers an area of 1,099 acres and has a planned building area of 500,000 square meters. The main campus is located in Qingyuan Guangdong Vocational Education City, covering an area of 995 acres. By the end of 2022, the school's total assets were 1.292 billion yuan, the library had a total collection of 1.4014 million volumes (including more than 310,100 electronic books and 26,800 CDs), 10 subscription databases, 318 current periodicals, and 51 newspapers. In 2022, the average value of teaching and scientific research equipment per student reached 4,464.48 yuan per student. Since 2009, the school has maintained a full-time student scale of 10,000. As of December 2022, the school has a total of 15,495 full-time students, more than 700 full-time teachers and external teachers, more than 200 "dual-qualified" teachers, and more than 130 skilled craftsmen, model workers, moral education tutors, and industry tutors. The teaching staff has a good structure and high level. Many teachers have won the titles of "Top Ten Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Jurists in Guangzhou", "Outstanding Teachers in South Guangdong", and "Outstanding Educators in South Guangdong". The teaching team has repeatedly won good results in competitions at all levels, and has won the "Golden Teaching Whip Award" for art design majors in national vocational colleges and the "First Prize" of the Provincial Teaching Ability Competition. Since 2009, the school teachers have undertaken a total of 341 scientific research projects of various types, including 1 national project, 72 provincial and ministerial projects, 133 departmental projects, 45 academic projects, 99 horizontal projects, 114 publicly published books and textbooks, and 1,556 papers. In 2016, the school achieved a breakthrough in patents, and in 2022, it successfully obtained 1 invention patent, achieving a breakthrough in invention patents. So far, it has obtained 60 patents of various types. The school currently has 8 secondary colleges, the School of Marxism and the Department of Physical Education and Arts, with a total of 16 departments. The professional structure is mainly business, and also includes engineering, covering finance and trade, civil engineering, light industry and textiles, food, medicine and grain, electronics and information, medicine and health, culture and art, tourism, education and sports, public security and justice, public management and services and other majors. It has 3 provincial high-level professional groups, 2 Guangdong Provincial Key Majors in Higher Vocational Education, 2 Guangdong Provincial Second-Class Brand Majors in Higher Vocational Education, 4 provincial quality courses, 5 provincial training bases, 4 provincial off-campus practical teaching base construction projects, 1 provincial teaching team, 75 provincial modern apprenticeship pilot projects, 26 provincial 1+X certificate pilot projects, 10 provincial teaching reform projects, 16 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training program projects, and has been approved as the second batch of provincial higher vocational colleges internal quality assurance system diagnosis and improvement pilot colleges, and has successfully established the project to become the "Guangdong Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Popularization Base", "Qingyuan City Humanities and Social Sciences Popularization Base" and Qingyuan City Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Protection Decision-making Consulting Research Base. The school recruits students from 16 provinces, cities and districts across the country and carries out various enrollment modes such as secondary and higher vocational connection, high-level connection, and modern apprenticeship. According to the statistics released by the Guangdong Provincial Education Examination Institute, in 2022, the minimum admission score for the general history group of our school is 420 points (240 points higher than the provincial line), and the minimum admission score for the physics group is 437 points (257 points higher than the provincial line). All undergraduates in the 3+ certificate and fine arts categories are admitted online. Over the past 30 years, the school has provided the country with more than 60,000 professional and technical talents and high-tech skilled talents. Most of the graduates have become the backbone of various industries in Guangdong Province, especially in the Pearl River Delta region, and have made important contributions to the economic construction and social development of various regions, and enjoy a good reputation inside and outside the province. According to the "Annual Report on the Employment Quality of Graduates of Guangdong Nanhua Vocational College of Technology in 2022", the initial employment destination implementation rate of the graduates of the class of 2022 is 96.19%, which is higher than the provincial average. The overall satisfaction of the graduates of the class of 2022 with their current employment status reached 93.98%, the satisfaction of employers with the talent training of the school was 99.26%, and the satisfaction of graduates with their alma mater was 97.89%. Following Huang Chang, a graduate of the class of 2016, our school graduate Zhong Junhao was successfully selected for the 5th "Shining Days-What Youth Should Look Like" College Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Character Collection Activity of the Student Service and Quality Development Center of the Ministry of Education in 2022. In 2022, in the 13th "Challenge Cup" Guangdong College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, our school won 1 provincial silver medal and 9 bronze medals. Since 2007, it has cooperated with Korean universities such as Busan University of Foreign Studies, Dongmyeong University, Dongguk University, and Silla University to implement the "2+2" undergraduate and postgraduate study mode. As of 2017, the number of students sent to Korean universities has reached more than 700, and it has become an important base for the training of Korean language professionals and studying in Korea for similar institutions in Guangdong Province. In 2014, the school formally signed a cooperative school-running agreement with Boren University in Thailand and opened the ASEAN International Trade major, which is the first professional direction in Guangdong Province to establish a cooperative relationship with Thailand. In 2015, the school's business Japanese major began to operate a 2+1 study abroad mode, and students can intern in Japan for 1 year in a part-time work and study form. Since 1994, the college has been rated as a civilized unit of the Provincial Working Committee for many consecutive years. In 2006, the school party committee was awarded the honorable title of "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization" by the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 2020, it was selected as a green school in Guangdong Province, and in November 2020, it was selected into the list of "the third batch of national defense education characteristic schools" of the Ministry of Education. Over the past 30 years, the school has changed its name several times and moved several times. Despite the vicissitudes of life, it has never stopped.
