Guangdong Polytechnic College is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Zhaoqing Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology established in 2004. In 2014, in accordance with the "Letter of the Ministry of Education on Approval to Establish Guangdong Polytechnic College on the Basis of Zhaoqing Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology" (Jiaofahan [2014] No. 124), the school was renamed Guangdong Polytechnic College. In the same year, the first batch of 5 undergraduate majors were enrolled in the first batch of students. In 2018, the school was approved as a bachelor's degree awarding institution. Since the school was upgraded to a university, under the leadership and support of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Government, the Provincial Party Committee Education Working Committee, the Provincial Education Department and local party committees and governments, the school has adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implemented the party's education policy, strengthened the party's leadership and grassroots party organization construction, implemented the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, and worked hard to promote the school's transformation from higher vocational education to applied undergraduate education. It actively adapted to the needs of regional economic and social development and Guangdong Province to increase the gross enrollment rate of higher education, and took improving the quality of talent training and serving local needs as the development goal, standardizing school management and connotation development as the main line of development, and taking people-oriented and giving full play to the subjective initiative and creativity of teachers and students as the driving force for development. It took increasing investment, improving the school environment, and respecting the rights and interests of teachers and students as the guarantee for development. The teachers, students and staff of the whole school worked together and made positive progress, and the school's various undertakings have achieved great development. The school currently has 9 colleges, 2 departments, a basic teaching department and a general education center, offering 34 undergraduate majors, covering 6 major disciplines such as engineering, economics, management, literature, art, and education, and 19 engineering majors, accounting for 55.88% of the total number of majors. There are more than 30,000 full-time undergraduate and junior college students and more than 2,400 teachers. The school covers an area of 918,600 square meters and a total building area of 679,200 square meters. The area of the on-campus experimental training site is 59,800 square meters, the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment assets is 215 million yuan, and the library has a paper collection of 2.2803 million volumes. Good progress has been made in discipline construction and scientific research. It has won 1 Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center, 2 provincial key (cultivation) disciplines, 1 Zhaoqing Engineering Technology Research Center, and 1 Zhaoqing Key Discipline. There are currently 2 provincial first-class professional construction sites and 5 provincial first-class undergraduate courses approved.
