Guangxi University is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, which is known as the "Green City of China". It is the only national "211 Project" construction school in Guangxi, a "Double First-Class" construction university, and a "Ministry-Region Joint Construction" university of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Guangxi University was founded in Wuzhou in 1928 and became the National Guangxi University in 1939. The first president was Dr. Ma Junwu, a famous educator, scientist, and democratic revolutionary in my country who was known as the "North Cai and South Ma" and "Master of the Generation" in the education world. A large number of famous masters such as Li Siguang, Chen Wangdao, Li Da, Chen Yinke, and Liang Shuming have taught here. In 1952, Chairman Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of "Guangxi University". In 1953, it was split into 19 universities in the adjustment of colleges and departments in universities across the country. In 1958, Chairman Mao Zedong approved the restoration and reconstruction of Guangxi University. In 1997, Guangxi University merged with Guangxi Agricultural University to form the new Guangxi University, and was listed as a key university in the national "211 Project" by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it was selected as one of the national "Double First-Class" universities. In 2018, it became a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In 2022, it will continue to be selected as a second round of national "Double First-Class" universities. The school covers an area of more than 21,400 acres, of which the main campus covers an area of 4,550.7 acres, the Guangxi Subtropical Agricultural Science City (agricultural, forestry and animal research and teaching experimental base) covers an area of 16,900 acres, and the total building area of the school is more than 2 million square meters. There are 26 colleges, with 24,167 full-time undergraduates, 15,149 full-time graduate students, 2,452 part-time graduate students, 883 international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 12,869 students of various types of continuing education. There are 3,360 full-time faculty members, 556 of whom hold senior professional and technical titles, 927 hold deputy senior professional and technical titles, 2 full-time Chinese Academy of Engineering academicians, 56 candidates for national major talent projects, and 22 recipients of special allowances from the State Council. The school has a full range of disciplines, including 11 major categories, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art, 38 first-level disciplines, and 67 undergraduate majors for enrollment in 2023, of which 15 majors are enrolled in 7 major categories. There is 1 "world-class" construction discipline, 2 "ministerial and regional joint construction" first-class discipline groups, 2 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 12 Guangxi first-class disciplines, and 46 national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, among which 7 disciplines including engineering, materials science, agricultural science, plant and animal science, chemistry, environment/ecology, and biology and biochemistry are among the top 1% in the ESI global ranking; 19 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, 38 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 25 master's professional degree authorization points and 14 postdoctoral research mobile stations. There are 2 national key laboratories, 1 national international science and technology cooperation base, 1 national university intelligence platform, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education and 2 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, 1 national and regional research base of the Ministry of Education, 2 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation centers, 1 key laboratory of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, 1 International Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, 1 National Language and Writing Promotion Base of the Ministry of Education, and a number of national and ministerial scientific research platforms, as well as 45 provincial science and technology innovation platforms, 4 key research bases of humanities and social sciences in Guangxi universities, and 13 members of the Guangxi Characteristic New Think Tank Alliance. The school actively builds a new pattern of opening up to the outside world, and has signed academic cooperation and exchange agreements with 282 universities and academic institutions in 48 countries and regions around the world, and has close cooperation and exchanges with 97 universities and academic institutions in the ten ASEAN countries. The school pays attention to scientific and technological innovation and serving the society, vigorously implements nine innovative measures to promote interdisciplinary integration, strive to build a leading team and innovative talent team, promote the integration of industry, academia and research and the transformation of results, and has produced a number of original results with significant impact. In recent years, the projects "Key technologies and applications of typical wastewater resource utilization and ultra-low emission in papermaking and fermentation" and "Key technologies and applications of large-scale chlorine dioxide preparation system and element-free chlorine bleaching of pulp" hosted by Academician Wang Shuangfei won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016 and the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award in 2019 respectively; the "Key Technology Research Team of Large-span Arch Bridges" led by Academician Zheng Jilian won the medal of the Second National Innovation Team, and the team hosted the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2018, the 16th China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, and the highest award of the 36th International Bridge Conference (IBC) ——George Richardson Award, won the first prize of Guangxi Technological Invention Award in 2020, and won the highest science and technology award in Guangxi in 2021; young teacher Xie Fei, as the only first author and the only corresponding author, published research results in the international top academic journal Nature with the title "Velha Pulsar Wind Cloud X-ray Polarization Approaching the Theoretical Limit of Synchrotron Radiation", achieving a historic breakthrough in publishing an article in Nature with a local unit in Guangxi as the first completing unit; Professor Han Linhai won the 2023 Third National Innovation Award and the 2023 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation "Science and Technology Innovation Award". Since 2006, he has won 46 first prizes in provincial and ministerial science and technology awards such as the Ministry of Education, 1 Guangxi Highest Science and Technology Award, 2 Guangxi Special Contribution Awards for Science and Technology, 2 Guangxi Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Awards, 4 Guangxi Innovation Awards, and 1 Guangxi Outstanding Engineer Award; he won 2 second prizes and 4 third prizes in the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award for Higher Education Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences), and 25 first prizes in the Guangxi Social Science Outstanding Achievements Award. The school adheres to the socialist direction of running schools and the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity. There are 12 national specialty majors, 3 national quality courses, 2 national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, 7 national quality open courses, 17 national first-class undergraduate courses, and 15 majors selected into the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", "Excellent Legal Talent Education and Training Program" and "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education; 3 national teaching teams, 17 national first-class undergraduate course teaching teams, 2 national teaching masters, 4 national comprehensive reform pilot majors, 1 national talent training model innovation experimental zone, and 5 national off-campus practical education bases for college students; 25 experimental teaching centers have been built, including 5 national experimental teaching demonstration centers; 2 national virtual simulation experimental teaching centers; 3 national first-class undergraduate courses in virtual simulation experimental teaching have been recognized, and 1 second prize of the 2018 National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education has been won. The school was selected as one of the national universities with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship (50 in the country), the national typical university for graduate employment (top 50 in the country), the first batch of national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform (99 in the country), and the national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base (100 in the country). The school won three national gold medals in the China International College Student Innovation Competition. In the 13th "Challenge Cup" China College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, it won one national gold medal and won the "Champion Cup".
