Guangzhou City Polytechnic is located in Guangzhou, a national central city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Its predecessor was the Guangzhou Automotive College of South China University of Technology, which was founded in 2005. It was approved as a bachelor's degree-granting institution in 2011 and renamed Guangzhou College of South China University of Technology in the same year. In 2021, the Ministry of Education approved its conversion to an independent general undergraduate college. The school has 16 colleges and 46 undergraduate majors, covering six disciplines of science, engineering, economics, management, literature, and art. There are more than 22,000 full-time students. The school currently covers an area of 1.1687 million square meters; the total building area of the school building is 521,600 square meters; the asset value of teaching, scientific research and internship equipment is 176 million yuan, the library has 2.0593 million paper books and 1 million electronic books; there are 14 experimental centers (including 5 basic experimental centers and 9 professional experimental centers), 271 laboratories, 664 employment and internship bases, and 1,140 teaching practice bases; 5G campus network has covered the entire school. The school adheres to the strategy of "strengthening the school with talents". Through measures such as the "Double Hundred Project" and the formation of subject teams, the school has improved the level of the teaching staff and has formed a high-quality teaching staff composed mainly of the school's own teachers and supplemented by part-time teachers. The school currently has more than 30 high-level talents at the provincial level and above, including teachers with special allowances from the State Council, national outstanding teachers, and national outstanding educators. The school focuses on the cultivation of applied talents, and has carried out industry-university-research cooperation with a number of well-known companies such as Sugon, Guangdong Architectural Design Institute, Guangzhou Uni Stamping, and Guangzhou Development New Energy. It has trained nearly 60,000 high-quality applied talents for the society and jointly trained more than 70 graduate students. There are currently 2 provincial key disciplines, 6 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 25 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 1 provincial collaborative education platform, 1 provincial demonstration industrial college, 3 provincial modern industrial college construction projects, 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national off-campus practice base for college students, and 9 provincial off-campus practice bases for college students; 3 provincial teaching achievement awards have been approved. From 2018 to date, students have won more than 100 international awards, more than 400 national awards, and more than 1,000 provincial awards in various innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. Among them, they won 2 silver medals in the China International College Student Innovation Competition, 2 provincial gold medals, and 5 silver medals; won 2 second prizes and 1 third prize in the 2023 "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, 6 provincial special prizes, 11 first prizes, and won the first provincial "Champion Cup"; won the 2023 National College Student Robot Competition ROBOCON runner-up; won the 2023 Shell Eco-Marathon (China) champion. The school attaches great importance to scientific research and strives to improve its social service capabilities. There are currently 4 municipal and departmental scientific research platforms, based on the construction of scientific and technological innovation and industrialization platforms, attaching importance to applied research and results transformation, and conducting organized scientific research. An engineering research institute was established to build a scientific research innovation platform as well as a results transformation and industrial technology service platform, and a large number of high-quality scientific research results have been achieved. In the past five years, the school has been approved for 382 scientific research projects of various types, including 50 vertical projects, and the actual scientific research project funds totaled 64.06 million yuan. 1,482 papers were published, including 713 papers above the statistical source. 706 patents were applied for, including 422 invention patents and 24 PCT international patents; 636 patents were authorized, including 120 invention patents. The number of patent applications and authorizations has remained at the forefront of private undergraduate colleges in Guangdong Province. Focusing on the "Belt and Road" initiative and the demand for international talents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the school has promoted the internationalization development strategy of education and has trained more than 70 full-time undergraduate international students. It has established cooperative relations with high-level universities and institutions in developed countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Taiwan, and carried out diversified cooperation. The school actively promotes professional international certification. Three majors have obtained IEET engineering certification and 11 majors have obtained IACBE international business certification. It is the first university in China to be certified by IACBE and the vice chairman unit of IACBE Asia. It has been approved as a provincial model school for innovation and entrepreneurship education for college students, a supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation, and a provincial doctoral workstation. The school has been shortlisted in the top 30 in the country by multiple third-party ranking agencies such as Shanghai Ranking, Alumni Association Network, and Wu Shulian. Among them, it has been ranked seventh in the science and engineering category of private universities in China on the Alumni Association Network for many consecutive years, and first in the province. It is a six-star top private university in China.
