Guangzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as the school) was formerly the former Guangzhou Railway Machinery School of the Ministry of Railways, which was established on May 22, 1974. In June 2000, with the approval of the People's Government of Guangdong Province, Guangzhou Railway Machinery School, Guangzhou Railway Transportation Workers University and Guangzhou Railway Adult Secondary Vocational School were merged and upgraded to a full-time public higher vocational college. In September 2004, the school was transferred from Guangzhou Railway (Group) Company (now China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd., referred to as Guangzhou Railway Group) to the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government. The school is now a national "Double High Plan" construction unit, a national demonstration (backbone) higher vocational college, a national high-quality junior college, a "national education power promotion project construction unit", a Guangdong Demonstration Higher Vocational College, a first-class higher vocational college in Guangdong Province, and the only rail transit higher vocational college in Guangdong Province. It is an important base for employee training in the rail transit industry in South China. The school currently has three campuses in Guangzhou Science and Education City, Shimen, and Zhixin South, covering an area of more than 800 acres and a total construction area of 450,000 square meters. The school offers 35 majors, including railway power supply technology, mechanical manufacturing and automation, urban rail transit operation management, railway signal and automatic control, urban rail transit vehicle technology, business English, railway engineering technology, etc. There are more than 12,000 students in the school. There are 13 teaching departments, including the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Transportation and Logistics, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Foreign Languages and Trade, the School of Locomotive and Rolling Stock, the School of Railway Engineering, the School of Marxism, and the Department of Basic Courses.
