In 2002, Guangzhou Software College was born in Conghua, the back garden of Guangzhou. In 2006, it began to implement undergraduate education. Its predecessor was Guangzhou University Huaruan Software College. In December 2020, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the consent of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, it was renamed Guangzhou Software College. Mr. Liang Guanjun, chairman of the school, is a famous overseas Chinese leader in the United States, a well-known Chinese industrialist, vice president of the China Overseas Friendship Association, consultant of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, executive director of the China Association for Promoting Peaceful Reunification, and chairman of the United Chinese Associations of the East Coast of the United States. Guangzhou Vocational and Technical College is located in the Guangdong Conghua Economic Development Zone in the northern extension area of Guangzhou Sino-Singapore Knowledge City. Taiping Station of Guangzhou Metro Line 14 is right at the school gate. There are more than 16,000 students and about 980 faculty and staff. It is a national innovation and entrepreneurship education practice base, a "mass maker space" registered by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, a supporting unit of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a Guangdong Province Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base, a Guangdong Province College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration School, Guangdong Province and Guangzhou "mass maker space", Guangdong Province and Guangzhou Two-level international service outsourcing talent training institutions, Guangdong Province Doctoral Workstation, Guangzhou Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Incubation) Demonstration Base, Vice Chairman Unit of the Information Technology Professional Cooperation Association of the China Alliance of Applied Technology Universities, Vice Chairman Unit of the Expert Committee of the China Service Trade Association, Executive Director Unit of the China School-Enterprise Collaborative Industry-University-Research Innovation Alliance, and the first batch of 5A-level social organizations of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Civil Affairs. The school has a scientific orientation, advanced concepts, rigorous scholarship, and standardized management. It has 9 departments including the School of Digital Economy and Management, the Department of Software Engineering, the Department of Network Technology, and the Department of Computer Science. It offers 32 undergraduate majors including Guangdong Province's first-class professional software engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Logistics Management, covering 5 major disciplines such as engineering, art, management, economics, and literature. The overall professional layout is mainly based on engineering (information technology) majors, and the coordinated development of multiple disciplines of literature, economics, management, and art. The school adheres to the development idea of "quality-based school, characteristic-strong school", connects with the needs of the software and information technology industry, carries out in-depth teaching reforms, vigorously improves connotation construction, and strives to improve the quality of education. After more than 20 years of construction and development, it has formed four major school-running characteristics of "features in IT, advantages in software", "double innovation leading, professional innovation integration", "overseas Chinese leaders as role models, emotional education", and "education with beauty, cultivation of temperament". There are currently 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 provincial general college engineering technology center, 1 provincial collaborative education center, 1 provincial key cultivation discipline, 3 provincial first-class majors, and 6 provincial characteristic majors. The school focuses on social demand-oriented, relying on the information industry, taking the application of computer technology in all walks of life as a foothold, focusing on the development of information technology professional groups, forming a professional group with software and information technology as the leader and the application of information technology in all walks of life as the feature, and has established close school-enterprise cooperation with well-known companies such as Huawei, Qi'anxin, ChinaSoft International, Zhongke Zhicheng, and JD.com in the fields of information technology, space security, and smart logistics, jointly building majors and co-educating people. At the same time, in the fields of artificial intelligence, cyberspace security, and blockchain, it strengthens the cultivation of engineering and innovation capabilities, reforms the talent training model, and promotes the close integration of talent training and industrial development. Together, we cultivate innovative and application-oriented talents that meet the needs of information technology industry development, create an application-oriented undergraduate university with distinctive information technology characteristics, serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and help the high-quality development of the national economy. The school adheres to the strategy of "strengthening the school with talents", attracts outstanding talents from home and abroad, including experts and professors with excellent professional qualities, personnel who have returned from studying abroad, and "dual-teacher" talents with rich practical experience from enterprises.
