Guangzhou Sport University is located on the central axis of Guangzhou, the central city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It was founded in 1956 and is one of the earliest sports universities established in New China. It is the only independent sports university in South China with undergraduate and graduate education. It is a modern university with sports as the main discipline. There are more than 8,000 students, including 1,052 full-time graduate students. The school mainly trains master's students and undergraduates, and jointly builds a doctoral joint training system with well-known universities at home and abroad. The school is based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, serves the national sports cause and the high-quality development of the regional economy and society, adheres to the school motto of "morality, learning, literature and martial arts", adheres to the school-running positioning of sports-featured applied research universities, and has formed the school-running characteristics of "promoting Lingnan sports culture and helping the development of sports in the Bay Area". It plays a unique role in the national and regional economic and social development, serves the strategic needs of a healthy China, a strong sports nation and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and actively integrates into the construction of the "Belt and Road"; it plays an irreplaceable role in sports education, national fitness, sports training, youth sports, sports industry, Lingnan sports culture exchange and dissemination, and has a strong radiation power in Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia. The school currently has 14 teaching institutions and 20 undergraduate majors, covering 6 major disciplines such as education, economics, management, art, literature, and medicine. It has a master's degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of sports and a master's degree authorization point for the second-level discipline of sports medicine. Among the school's teachers, there are experts with special allowances from the State Council, winners of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, experts from the National Sports Professional Committee, national outstanding teachers, Pearl River Scholars Distinguished Professors, provincial teaching masters, international and national referees, etc. In its more than 60-year history, the university has adhered to the fundamental task of cultivating morality and educating people, and has demonstrated the functions of a modern university in terms of talent cultivation, scientific research, serving the society, cultural inheritance, and international exchange and cooperation. It has trained a large number of outstanding talents of various types, such as more than 60 world champion athletes, more than 60 senior government managers, more than 30 university presidents, as well as a large number of senior coaches, outstanding physical education teachers, high-level scientific researchers, successful entrepreneurs, and other industry elites. The first world champion, the first world champion in swimming, and the first world champion in diving in New China all came from this university. 50% of sports undergraduates and 70% of sports postgraduates in Guangdong Province are trained by this university.
