The history of Guiyang University can be traced back to 1902. Guiyang Public Normal School, founded by Mr. Li Duanfen, the initiator of Peking University, was renamed Guiyang Normal School in 1957. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Guiyang Normal College and Jinzhu University merged to form Guiyang University, implementing the school-running system of "co-construction by the province and the city, with the city as the main body". Later, Guiyang Normal School was merged into Guiyang University, becoming a comprehensive general undergraduate university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines. In 2010, the school passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, passed the review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2017, became a master's degree authorization institution in 2018, and completed the "provincial and provincial management" management system reform in 2023, embarking on a new journey of high-quality and sustainable development. The school is located in the Shuanglong Aviation Port Economic Zone of Guizhou, on the banks of the Yuliang River, with a beautiful natural environment and a gathering of humanistic spirit. The school steadily develops undergraduate education, vigorously develops graduate education, moderately carries out vocational education and continuing education, and builds a multi-level high-quality talent training system. Guiyang University is a place of great talent and talents. The school currently has more than 960 faculty and staff, including 717 full-time teachers, 230 full-time teachers with doctoral degrees, and 439 associate professors and above. There is 1 provincial teaching master, 9 "Golden Masters", and 10 famous teachers of ideological and political education in courses. There is 1 "National Huang Danian-style Teacher Team in Colleges and Universities", 2 provincial "Academic Pioneer" teams, 3 provincial scientific and technological innovation teams, 7 provincial scientific and technological innovation teams in colleges and universities, and 2 provincial "Top Ten" innovation teams. Guiyang University has a complete range of disciplines and distinctive characteristics. The school has 17 professional colleges and 1 continuing education college, covering 11 disciplines including science, engineering, economics, management and education. There are currently 2 provincial first-class discipline groups, 2 provincial first-class disciplines, 1 provincial characteristic key discipline, and 8 provincial key disciplines. 1 national first-class undergraduate major, 1 national characteristic major, 12 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 2 provincial characteristic majors, and 5 provincial outstanding talent education and training plan construction project majors. There are currently 42 majors enrolling students, recruiting undergraduates from 13 provinces. 2 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 5 professional master's degree authorization points, and more than 20 enrollment and training directions recruit master's students nationwide. Guiyang University attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation and scientific research empowerment. The school has won a total of 54 National Social Science Fund projects and National Art Fund projects, and 65 National Natural Science Foundation projects. The school has won 57 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, 108 prefecture-level scientific research achievement awards, 177 on-campus and off-campus internship and training bases, and teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of 240 million yuan. The library has a collection of more than 1.05 million Chinese and foreign paper books, more than 2 million electronic books, and 60 database resources. Guiyang University focuses on open education and serving the society. The school is based in Guiyang and Gui'an, and has carried out in-depth cooperation and exchanges with the governments of Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone, Nanming District, Guanshanhu District and other places. The school is a counterpart support construction university of Tianjin University clearly defined by the Ministry of Education. The school has reached education exchange and cooperation agreements with more than 70 overseas universities such as the University of Quebec in Canada, Mahidol University in Thailand, and Kalasin University, and has established an international talent training system at three levels: exchange students, language students and degree students.
