Guizhou Institute of Technology was formally approved by the Ministry of Education on April 18, 2013. It is a full-time public engineering undergraduate college of the province, focusing on engineering, science, management, etc., in response to the needs of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Guizhou Provincial People's Government for the implementation of the industrial strengthening strategy and urbanization-driven strategy for applied talents in science and engineering. The school adheres to the connotation-oriented development path of "creating a school with characteristics, establishing a school with quality, developing a school with talents, and strengthening a school with science and technology". In accordance with the discipline construction ideas of "focusing on engineering and science, strengthening management and promoting literature, cross-integration, and highlighting characteristics", it explores and constructs an integrated construction and development system of "discipline-major-platform-team-project-achievement". In 2014, it was selected into the "Basic Capacity Building Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China". In 2017, it became one of the first national demonstration universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. Under the platform framework of the "China-ASEAN" Education Exchange Week, the "China-ASEAN University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance" was initiated in 2017. In 2020, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of ordinary colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education. In 2021, it was approved to add a master's degree granting project construction unit. In 2022, it was approved as a national-level innovation and entrepreneurship college. The school is located in the summer resort capital of the southwest of the motherland, Gui'an National New District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, located on Boshi Road in University Town, with a school area of 1,336 acres and a planned building area of 669,000 square meters. The school currently has 19 colleges and 1 university science and technology incubator park, with 40 undergraduate majors. Two majors, including mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, and aircraft manufacturing engineering, have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and jointly organized with the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom Electrical Engineering and Automation Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate majors. There are currently first-class construction and cultivation disciplines in Guizhou Province, materials science and engineering, provincial key disciplines of materials science and engineering, geological resources and geological engineering, provincial characteristic key cultivation disciplines of aerospace science and technology, provincial key support disciplines of management science and engineering, computer application technology, mechanical manufacturing and automation, provincial key support cultivation disciplines of power systems and automation, chemical processes, etc. The school currently has 873 faculty members, including 103 senior professional titles, 283 associate senior professional titles, and 232 teachers with doctoral degrees. There are more than 30 provincial experts (category I and II), recipients of special allowances from the provincial government, "Qianling Scholars" in philosophy and social sciences of provincial universities, provincial outstanding young scientific and technological talents, winners of provincial youth science and technology awards, provincial outstanding scientific and technological workers, provincial 100-level innovative talent training targets, and provincial 1,000-level innovative talent training targets; more than 10 national outstanding teachers, provincial outstanding teachers, teaching masters, and "golden teachers". There are more than 12,700 full-time undergraduate students, including international students from 26 provinces, municipalities (autonomous regions) and 14 countries in China. The school actively promotes open education, and has carried out joint education with leading enterprises such as AVIC Guizhou Aircraft Company, Alibaba Group, and Guizhou Phosphate Chemical Group. Students participated in the national college student discipline competition and ranked among the top 300 in the country. The school has built a national-level health and intelligent manufacturing maker space and an international standard research and innovation demonstration base for magnesium and magnesium alloys. It has been approved to co-build the Ministry of Education's "Karst Area Carbon Neutrality Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center" and the National Aluminum-Magnesium Electrolysis Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center Molten Salt Electrochemical Reaction Experimental Base. It has established two provincial key laboratories, Guizhou Provincial Key Laboratory of Power Big Data and Guizhou Provincial Key Laboratory of Light Metal Materials Preparation Technology, Guizhou Provincial Key Laboratory of Clean and Efficient Utilization of Phosphorus Coal Resources, and Key Laboratory of Karst Engineering Geology and Hidden Mineral Resources, as well as provincial scientific research platforms such as the Guizhou Provincial Special Functional Materials 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, Guizhou Institute of Technology Academician Workstation, and Guizhou Industrial Development Research Center. There are three Guizhou Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Talent Teams, including Aviation Light Metal Materials and Welding Technology, Fruit Wine Brewing Engineering Technology, and Energy Chemical Conversion New Materials. Three teams, including heavy metal in-situ regulation and ecological restoration, intelligent optimization and data mining, and hidden ore deposit survey, are scientific and technological innovation teams of ordinary colleges and universities in Guizhou Province. There are two provincial talent bases, namely the Guizhou Green Process Engineering Talent Base and the Guizhou Geological Resources and Geological Engineering Talent Base. It has engineering research centers for Guizhou Provincial General Higher Education Institutions, such as the Guizhou Smart Tourism Industry Development Research Institute, the Guizhou "Internet +" Industry Technology Research Institute, and the Fluorosilicon Materials Engineering Research Institute. It has jointly built scientific research platforms such as the Guizhou Phosphogypsum Research Institute, the Guizhou Great Health and Medicine Industry Technology Research Institute, and the Guiyang Aluminum Industry Technology Innovation Center with local governments, enterprises, and industry associations. The resource exploration engineering teaching team is the first batch of "Huang Danian-style teaching teams in national universities". Since its establishment, the school has been approved for 129 national scientific research projects; published more than 3,800 academic papers of various types, including more than 150 highly cited papers in the top 1% of ESI, papers with an impact factor of >10, and papers in SCI Zones 1 and 2 in the past three years. It has presided over the development of 2 international ISO standards, presided over and participated in the development and drafting of a number of national standards and industry standards, and won 27 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards. Looking to the future, Guizhou University of Technology will focus on the "Four New" and "Four Modernizations" main strategies, cultivate new-era red engineers with a bright red political background, solid engineering foundation, good digital literacy and innovation ability, and strive to build "a first-class, people-satisfied, high-level science and engineering university in the West."
