Guizhou University for Nationalities was founded on May 17, 1951. It is affiliated to the Guizhou Provincial People's Government. It is one of the earliest ethnic colleges established in New China. It is a key university in Guizhou Province, a university jointly built by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and a university for Chinese government scholarship students. The school is located in Gui'an New District, a national-level new district for industrial-city integration innovation and ecological civilization demonstration, covering an area of 2,708 acres and a school building area of 1.11 million square meters. The school recruits students from all over the country and currently has 21,444 full-time students. Since its establishment, it has trained and supplied more than 160,000 talents of all levels and types for the society, providing important talent support and intellectual support for the economic and social development of Guizhou and ethnic minority areas. The school has a faculty team with a reasonable structure and good development trend. There are 1,309 full-time teachers, including 198 senior professional titles, 663 associate senior professional titles, 600 people with doctoral degrees, 580 people with master's degrees, and 754 graduate supervisors. The school has a complete range of disciplines and majors, and the foundation of running a school is constantly being consolidated. The school currently has 81 general undergraduate majors, 10 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 20 professional master's degree authorization points, and 1 doctoral talent training program serving national special needs. There is 1 first-class construction discipline in Guizhou Province, 6 first-class construction disciplines in Guizhou Province, 4 key disciplines of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, 12 provincial key disciplines (including 5 provincial characteristic key disciplines), 2 disciplines are included in the key support disciplines of the "Guizhou Province General Colleges and Universities Science and Engineering Discipline Construction Strengthening Action"; 12 national first-class undergraduate professional construction points, 22 provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction points, 9 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 1 national first-class undergraduate course construction point, and 3 regional first-class course groups. There are more than 70 scientific research platforms and teams of various levels and types, including one provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center, one key research base of the Ministry of Education's National Education Development Center, seven national ethnic affairs research bases, humanities and social sciences key research bases, and key laboratories, two talent training bases of the Organization Department of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, one new characteristic think tank of the Propaganda Department of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, one inheritance and innovation base of Chinese arts and crafts masters, the Collaborative Innovation Center of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of Colleges and Universities, the Characteristic Key Laboratory of Colleges and Universities, the Engineering Research Center of Colleges and Universities, and the Innovation Talent Group. The school has research institutions such as Guizhou National Science Research Institute, Colorful Guizhou Cultural Collaborative Innovation Center, Rural Revitalization Research Center, Law Research Institute, Southwest Yelang Culture Research Institute, Southwest Nuo Culture Research Institute, Chinese National Community Research Center, Water Book Culture Research Institute, Guizhou National Culture and Art Research Institute, Karst Wetland Ecological Research Center, National Architecture Design Institute, and Guizhou Mountain Tourism and National Economy Research Institute. In the past three years, 126 national projects have been approved, including 3 major projects of the National Social Science Fund and 1 key international (regional) cooperation and exchange project of the National Natural Science Foundation. The school has established cooperative relations with universities in the United States, Britain, France, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, the Netherlands, Malaysia and other countries, and carried out mutual exchange of students, academic exchanges, cooperative education, teacher training and scientific research cooperation. So far, more than 2,000 international students have been trained in China. The school has been rated as a national model unit for ethnic unity and progress by the State Council 5 times, a national civilized unit twice, and an advanced unit for the national summer "three going to the countryside" social practice of college students by the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Education. It has been awarded the National Advanced Unit for Legal Propaganda and Education, the National Demonstration Unit for Conservation-oriented Public Institutions, and the Demonstration School for Rule of Law by the Ministry of Education. The school party committee has been rated as an advanced party committee in the province many times. The school has been rated as an advanced collective of ethnic unity and progress in Guizhou Province, a civilized unit in Guizhou Province, an advanced collective of spiritual civilization construction in Guizhou Province, a beautiful campus in Guizhou Province, and a green university in Guizhou Province. In 2020, it was rated as a national civilized campus and a provincial civilized campus. The school has always received the cordial care of the leaders of the Party and the country. Comrades Hu Yaobang, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, He Long, Wen Jiabao, Li Ruihuan and others have visited the school. When Comrade Jiang Zemin came to inspect the school, he wrote the inscription "Develop ethnic education and strengthen ethnic unity" and wrote the name of our school. On the 50th anniversary of our school, Comrade Jiang Zemin wrote the inscription "Strive to develop ethnic education and promote the common prosperity of all ethnic groups". When Comrade Hu Jintao was the Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, he and teachers and students planted the "Communist Youth Forest" on the Huaxi Campus. Over the past 70 years, the school has fully implemented the Party's education policy, adhered to the socialist direction of running schools, and always adhered to the school-running purpose of serving Guizhou, serving ethnic areas, and serving national strategies. It has developed into a talent training base for ethnic areas in Guizhou, a scientific and technological research and development base, a base for the inheritance and innovation of excellent ethnic culture, a demonstration base for ethnic unity and progress, and an important think tank for the economic and social development of ethnic areas. At present, the school is guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 13th Provincial Party Congress, and following the development blueprint planned by the Second Party Congress of the school. It insists on party building leadership, highlights disciplinary planning, focuses on innovation-driven development, strengthens governance guarantees, and moves towards the goal of building a distinctive, high-level, first-class ethnic university.
