Hebei Normal University is a provincial key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the Ministry of Education, and a first-level university in Hebei Province's "Double First-Class" construction. The school originated from Shuntianfu School founded in Beijing in 1902 and Beiyang Women's Normal School founded in Tianjin in 1906. It has a development history of more than 120 years and a glorious tradition of running schools. In June 1996, the former Hebei Normal University and Hebei Normal College merged with Hebei Education College founded in 1952 and Hebei Vocational and Technical Normal College founded in 1984 to form the new Hebei Normal University. In 2014, the People's Government of Hebei Province and the Ministry of Education decided to jointly build Hebei Normal University. At the beginning of its establishment, Hebei Normal University took the mission of reforming the old and establishing the new, opening up the wisdom of the people, laying a bright red gene, accumulating a glorious revolutionary tradition, and practicing the great journey of national rejuvenation. From the "school" in its early days to the academic halls that are famous in Yanzhao today, Hebei Normal University, which was born in the tide of the era of "promoting education and saving the country", adheres to the school motto of "caring for the world and seeking true knowledge", passes on the torch, and cultivates a large number of pillars who are committed to national rejuvenation and patriotism. The school holds high the great banner of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adheres to the overall leadership of the Party, fully implements the Party's education policy in the new era, adheres to the socialist direction of running schools, and leads the high-quality development of the school's cause with high-quality party building. The school has been awarded the titles of grassroots party building red flag unit, advanced grassroots party organization, and civilized unit by the provincial party committee and the provincial government. One college was selected as a national benchmark college for party building work, and five party branches were selected as model party branches for party building work in colleges and universities across the country. In 2011, the school moved to the new campus as a whole. The new campus covers an area of 1,829 acres, with a collection of 3.3 million books and more than 70 Chinese and foreign databases. There are 24,936 undergraduate students, 5,870 master's students, 644 doctoral students, and 11,198 adult education students. There are 23 colleges (departments) and 1 independent college (Huihua College). The school currently has 86 undergraduate majors, 26 first-level master's degree authorization points, 23 master's professional degree authorization points, 11 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 1 doctoral professional degree authorization point, and 10 postdoctoral research mobile stations. Disciplines and majors cover 11 disciplines including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art. There is currently 1 national key discipline, 7 "double first-class" construction disciplines in Hebei Province, 1 national key discipline cultivation project in provincial universities, 4 strong and characteristic disciplines (groups) in provincial universities, and 14 key disciplines in provincial universities. In the 2023 China University Rankings by Soft Science, a total of 80 majors of the school were listed, of which 39 majors ranked in the top 50 in the country and 7 majors ranked in the top 10 in the country. There are 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 2 key research bases of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 1 national language promotion base, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Education, and 3 national and regional research registration centers of the Ministry of Education; 19 key laboratories, technology innovation centers, engineering research centers, and basic discipline research centers of Hebei Province, 16 key research bases of humanities and social sciences, 2 international cooperation bases, 3 collaborative innovation centers, and 3 new think tanks.
