Hebei University of Science and Technology is a provincial general higher education institution with the right to confer master's degrees. It is located in the coastal tourist city of Qinhuangdao. The school was founded in 1941, began to provide higher education in 1975, began to recruit undergraduate students in 1977, and obtained the right to confer master's degrees in 2006. The school is the first batch of national key construction vocational teacher training bases of the Ministry of Education, the national science and technology commissioner entrepreneurship training base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the modern agricultural technology training base of the Ministry of Agriculture, the first batch of national science popularization education bases of the China Association for Science and Technology, the first batch of undergraduate colleges and universities in Hebei Province Transformation and Development Demonstration Colleges, and Hebei Province Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration Colleges. The school currently has three campuses in Qinhuangdao, Changli, and Development Zone, covering an area of 950,000 square meters (1,424 acres), a building area of 416,000 square meters, teaching and scientific research equipment with a total value of 312 million yuan, 1.8625 million books and documents in the library, 1.453 million electronic books, and 44 databases of various types. There is a nationally certified electronic biological specimen museum and an affiliated vocational middle school. The university has 20 secondary teaching units, including the Graduate School, the College of Animal Science and Technology, the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology, the College of Horticulture Science and Technology, the College of Marine Resources and Environment, the College of Urban Construction, the College of Chemical Engineering, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the College of Food Science and Technology, the College of Business Administration, the College of Mathematics and Information Technology, the College of Finance and Economics, the College of Foreign Languages, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Education, the College of Arts, the College of Physical Science and Technology, the College of Physical Education and Health, the College of Marxism, and the College of Continuing Education. There are currently 21,146 full-time undergraduate students and 1,068 postgraduates. There are 1,653 faculty members, 1,397 teachers with master's degrees or above, including 371 teachers with doctoral degrees; 612 teachers with senior professional titles, including 168 professors; and 519 "dual-qualified and dual-capable" teachers. A total of 151 people have been awarded the titles of national excellent teachers, "provincial excellent experts", "experts with special government allowances" and other provincial and above expert titles, and there are 31 members of the Ministry of Education and Hebei Provincial Teaching Steering Committee. The school currently has 7 provincial key disciplines and key development disciplines, including 7 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, including biology, horticulture, chemistry, food science and engineering, animal husbandry, education, and marine science, and recruits master's students in 19 second-level disciplines; it has 5 master's professional degree authorization categories, including agriculture, education, veterinary medicine, machinery, and music, and recruits master's students in 16 fields. There are 16 provincial graduate demonstration courses, 16 provincial graduate case library construction projects, 4 provincial graduate practice bases, and 1 provincial graduate workstation. The school has 77 undergraduate majors, covering 9 major disciplines, including agriculture, education, engineering, science, literature, law, economics, management, and art. There is 1 national comprehensive reform pilot major, 21 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 2 transformation demonstration majors, 3 provincial undergraduate education innovation highlands, 6 provincial brand specialty majors, and 6 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers; there are 3 national first-class undergraduate courses, 1 national quality course, 9 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 8 provincial quality courses, 6 provincial quality online open courses, and 6 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses. It has won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 43 provincial teaching achievement awards (including 7 first prizes). It has been approved for 2 national new agricultural science projects and the first batch of reform pilot projects of the Ministry of Education's excellent agricultural and forestry talent education and training plan. It has 1 national modern industrial college and 2 provincial modern industrial colleges. The school has a national science and technology basic conditions platform-domestic animal germplasm resource platform, chestnut industry technology Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center and 1 provincial collaborative innovation center, 6 provincial key laboratories, 5 provincial technology innovation centers, 5 provincial industrial technology research institutes, 1 provincial engineering research center, 1 Hebei University Application Technology R&D Center and 3 social science research bases. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has undertaken and completed 2,161 scientific research projects of various levels and types, including 676 national and provincial and ministerial projects; published 717 high-level academic papers and 216 academic works; obtained a total of 161 million yuan in external vertical research funds; won 49 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards, including 3 provincial first prizes; obtained 16 new plant variety rights, 290 authorized patents, including 162 invention patents, and 168 software copyrights. The school has a provincial technology transfer center and a provincial science and technology commissioner studio, and is a provincial science and technology innovation voucher innovation service provider. There is currently one provincial county-level characteristic industry science and technology mission in Hebei Province, five provincial "one county and one mission" science and technology missions, 123 provincial science and technology commissioners, 32 provincial "three districts" science and technology personnel, and 29 Qinglong County "Silver Age Expert" plan personnel. The school provides technical support to 7 provincial agricultural science and technology parks. As the chief expert, it has co-built 15 agricultural innovation stations in Hebei Province, 10 of the first batch of agricultural expert workstations in Qinhuangdao City, 16 school-level expert workstations, and 59 industry-university-research cooperation demonstration bases with enterprises. Since 2020, the school has undertaken 239 horizontal projects and 25 achievement conversions. Three science and technology service teams have been awarded the title of "Hebei University Li Baoguo-style Science and Technology Service Team", one person has been awarded the title of "Hebei Li Baoguo-style Science and Education Poverty Alleviation Outstanding Contributor", one person has been awarded the title of "Hebei Province Poverty Alleviation Advanced Individual", and one person has been awarded the "Hebei Province Poverty Alleviation Award Innovation Award". The school has established science and technology education cooperation relations with more than 30 foreign universities and scientific research institutions, and is a member of the Hebei International Vocational Education Development Alliance, the Hebei Confucius Institute Alliance, the China-West University Alliance, and the China-Finland University of Applied Sciences Alliance. It has won many honorary titles such as "Advanced Collective for International Exchange and Cooperation in Education and Culture in Hebei Province" and "Advanced Unit for Introducing Foreign Intelligence in Hebei Province". There are programs such as the Sino-US and Sino-Finnish "121" dual degree, the Sino-Australian "312" undergraduate to master's degree, Malaysian exchange students and Italian free exchange students. In cooperation with the University for Foreigners of Perugia, Italy, an Italian language training and testing center has been established. In the past five years, students have won 1,106 provincial and above awards in the National College Students' "Challenge Cup" Competition, Humanities Quality Competition, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and various subject competitions, including 370 national awards. The implementation rate of graduates' graduation destinations has remained stable at more than 90%.
