The predecessor of Hebei University of Technology was the Beiyang Industrial School founded in 1903. It is one of the earliest universities in my country to train industrial talents and founded the earliest university-run factory in the country. In 1929, it was renamed Hebei Provincial Industrial College and in 1995, it was renamed Hebei University of Technology. In 1996, the school was among the first batch of key universities in the "211 Project" of the country; in 2014, it was jointly built by Hebei Province, Tianjin City and the Ministry of Education; in 2017, it was selected as a national "double first-class" construction university; in 2022, it was selected as a new round of national "double first-class" construction universities. For 120 years, the school has always adhered to the school-running tradition of "promoting industry and serving the country" and the school motto of "diligence, prudence and loyalty", forming the school-running characteristics of "combining engineering and learning", and has trained more than 300,000 outstanding graduates for the country. In recent years, the three disciplines of materials science, chemistry and engineering have steadily improved in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. In 2020, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Campus". The school has 20 teaching institutions and 64 undergraduate majors, including 37 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, covering seven major disciplines of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art, and 20 majors have passed the professional certification of engineering education/professional evaluation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It has 1 national "double first-class" discipline, 2 national key disciplines, 7 Hebei "double first-class" disciplines, 20 Hebei key disciplines, 6 Tianjin top disciplines and service industry characteristic disciplines, and 7 Tianjin key disciplines. It has 10 postdoctoral research stations, 11 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 26 first-level master's degree authorization points, 17 professional degree categories, and 28 professional degree master authorization fields. There are more than 24,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 9,000 graduate students. The school vigorously implements the talent-strengthening project and continuously improves the mechanism for the introduction and training of high-level talents. In recent years, the university has introduced and trained 34 national talents including "Yangtze River Scholars", "National Outstanding Youth Fund" winners, and national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" science and technology innovation leaders. More than 320 people have the titles of provincial and ministerial experts, such as national teaching masters, national candidates for the "New Century Hundred Thousand Talents Project", and winners of the State Council Special Allowance. There are more than 2,800 faculty and staff, including more than 1,800 full-time teachers. In recent years, centering on the major national strategic needs of the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei and the needs of regional industrial transformation and upgrading, the school has established a "landing and high" scientific research work idea based on the platform jointly built by the province, city and ministry, and gathered regional school resources. The school has built 65 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms including the provincial and ministerial co-construction national key laboratory, the national engineering technology research center, and the national and local joint engineering laboratory. Won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the "Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Achievement Award", the Hebei Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award and many other provincial and ministerial awards. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has presided over 79 major national key projects, nearly 700 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and authorized more than 4,600 patents, ranking 70th in the list of China's top 100 universities in terms of patents. It has been approved as one of the first national intellectual property pilot universities, signed 3,530 horizontal contracts, 14 "tens of millions" horizontal projects, and the highest contract amount was 85 million yuan in the first installment. The scientific research funds to the school will reach 410 million yuan in 2023. The first "Yuanguang" small satellite was successfully launched and operated in orbit on the Long March 8 carrier rocket. The high-performance robot tactile sensing intelligent system was selected into the 2020 "Science and Technology Innovation China" leading technology list. More than 100 scientific research results have won national and provincial and ministerial awards, and it is one of the top ten outstanding invention and creation units in Hebei Province. The school pays attention to international exchanges and cooperation, and has now formed a new pattern of international cooperation in running schools in an all-round, multi-level and wide-ranging manner. At present, the school has signed cooperation agreements with more than 60 foreign universities, and cooperative training covers all levels from undergraduate to doctoral. The school cooperates with Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology in Finland to build the "Hebei University of Technology Finland Campus", and with the world-renowned University of Arizona in the United States to build the "Hebei University of Technology Arizona Institute of Technology". The school currently has more than 1,300 students in the Sino-foreign cooperative education program and nearly 400 international students. At present, the joint construction of the province, city and ministry has built a new development platform for the school. The national "Double First-Class" construction has allowed the school's development to enter a "new era", and the 120th University of Technology has embarked on a new journey.
