Heilongjiang Oriental University is an ordinary undergraduate college founded by the older generation of educators such as Meng Xin, Shang Hexiang, Zhou Changyuan, and Liu Shiqin. It was founded in 1992 and is the first private college in Heilongjiang Province after the reform and opening up. In 2023, the organizer of the school was changed to "Heilongjiang Higher Education Society". The school is located in the national-level new district-Harbin New District Hanan Industrial New City. The campus covers an area of 592,400 square meters, the building area is 342,000 square meters, and the net assets have reached 1.779 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 98.4641 million yuan. The school has a sports field area of 52,000 square meters and a gymnasium area of 14,600 square meters. The total area of the library is 30,075 square meters, with 1.317 million paper books and more than 2.35 million electronic books. The school began to recruit full-time junior college students in 1993, and undergraduate students in 2000. In 2003, it was upgraded to a private undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2007, it obtained the right to confer bachelor's degrees. In 2010, it was identified as a "characteristic applied undergraduate pilot construction college" by the Heilongjiang Provincial Government. In 2011, it was approved by the State Council Degree Office to become one of the first five private colleges in the country with the qualification to train master's professional degree students. In 2012, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and passed the construction acceptance of Heilongjiang Province's characteristic applied undergraduate colleges in 2015. In 2018, it passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of ordinary colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, and passed the comprehensive school-running quality evaluation of private undergraduate colleges in Heilongjiang Province in 2019. In 2020, it was approved as a characteristic applied undergraduate demonstration college in Heilongjiang Province. The school currently has 13,704 full-time students, including 13,634 undergraduates, 70 master's professional degree students, and 3 foreign students. The school has 10 colleges and 2 teaching and research departments. It has two master's degree authorization points in biology and medicine and international business, and has 44 undergraduate majors, covering 7 disciplines of science, engineering, literature, economics, management, law and art.
