The predecessor of Heilongjiang Vocational College of Art was Heilongjiang Provincial Opera School, which was founded in 1959 and renamed Heilongjiang Provincial Art School in 1972. In September 2002, with the approval of the provincial government, it merged with Heilongjiang Provincial Cultural Cadre School to form Heilongjiang Vocational College of Art. It is currently the only full-time comprehensive state-run vocational college of art in Heilongjiang Province. The campus covers an area of nearly 100,000 square meters and a building area of 102,000 square meters. The college has a profound cultural and artistic heritage. Over the past 60 years since its establishment, it has trained a large number of performing artists and playwrights who are well-known in the province and even the country, such as writer Zhang Kangkang; playwrights Zhang Mingyuan, Bao Shi, Li Jingkuan, Fei Shoujiang; calligrapher Zhang Ge; performing artists Liu Shuqin, Zhao Sanfeng, Bai Shuxian, Xing Meizhu, Li Shiyou; acrobatic performing artist Wang Hong; dancers Tang Wenjuan, Wei Yun, Qiu Hui; singers Mou Xuanfu, Jin Man, Liu Hegang, Yu Naijiu, Wang Shaomei; composers Wang Ning, Li Life; violinist Xue Suli; music producer Li Dun; film and television performing artists Liu Jia, Liu Zhibing, Zhang Guoqiang; painters Wu Tuanliang, Lin Jianqun, etc. It is known as the "cradle of artistic talents in Heilongjiang". The college's educational level is mainly higher vocational education, supplemented by secondary vocational education and supplemented by adult training. Film and TV performance and dance performance are provincial key construction majors; music performance and stage art design are key construction majors supported by the central government; dance performance passed the acceptance of Heilongjiang Province's high-level professional construction project in 2021 (excellent), and was selected into the second round of Heilongjiang Province's high-level professional group construction project at the end of 2021, and is a key professional point for higher art vocational colleges across the country; "Flower Stick Dance" and Northeast Yangko were selected by the "three ministries and commissions" as national national ethnic cultural inheritance and innovation demonstration majors; in 2018, the original dance drama "Original Wind" was selected into the National Art Fund Project. The repertoires created and performed by drama and film and television have won many awards, including the "China Cao Yu Drama Award", the "Star Award" for Chinese Drama, the "Little Plum Blossom" Award for Chinese Opera, and the "China Campus Drama Festival" Outstanding Repertoire Award. Majors such as music performance (vocal, instrumental, folk music) and art design have participated in various national competitions and won many awards. Since 2010, the college has won more than 500 awards of various types, including more than 70 national awards. In October 2021, the college completed the relocation and replacement of the new campus. While vigorously improving the conditions for running schools, it continued to strengthen its connotation construction. In 2022, it achieved historic breakthroughs in major awards and competitions such as the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, the Provincial Vocational College Skills Competition Teaching Ability Competition, and the "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and achieved important landmark results on the road of "double high construction". The college has been rated as a provincial "model of civilized units" by the Heilongjiang Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government for many times. In 2021, it was rated as a provincial "model of civilized campuses". In 2022, it was selected as the first batch of provincial demonstration sites for civilized practice in the new era. As the predecessor of the college, the Heilongjiang Art School has also been rated as a "national key art secondary school" by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture many times.
