It is a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a national intellectual property pilot university, a national professional and technical personnel continuing education base, the first batch of university science and technology achievement transformation and technology transfer bases of the Ministry of Education, Henan Province "Double First-Class" creation universities and one of the high-level comprehensive universities key construction in Henan Province. The school was built in response to the needs of the layout of the national industrial base construction. It was founded in Beijing in 1952 and moved to Luoyang in 1956. In 1958, it was renamed Luoyang Institute of Technology and was affiliated to the Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1998, it was transferred to the management of Henan Province. In 2002, Luoyang Institute of Technology merged with Luoyang Medical College and Luoyang Agricultural College to form Henan University of Science and Technology. Li Keqiang, former Premier of the State Council (then Governor of Henan Provincial People's Government), personally presented the school plaque to the school and pointed out that "the establishment of Henan University of Science and Technology is a major measure taken by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government to implement the strategy of 'revitalizing Henan through science and education'... Three disciplines have become national defense characteristic disciplines, four disciplines have been selected as Henan Province's characteristic backbone disciplines (groups), and 28 disciplines have been selected as provincial key disciplines.
