Heyuan Vocational and Technical College is a full-time general college organized by the People's Government of Heyuan City. It is a model higher vocational college in Guangdong Province, a civilized unit in Guangdong Province, an advanced school construction unit of civilized campus in Guangdong Province, a high-level vocational college construction unit in Guangdong Province, a pilot school for deepening the reform of education evaluation in the new era in Guangdong Province, a national digital campus construction experimental school for vocational colleges, and a pilot school for the modern apprenticeship system of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in Jiangdong New District, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, backed by Wutong Mountain, facing Dongjiang River, close to Donghuan Road, with beautiful scenery and convenient transportation. The school covers an area of 838.54 acres and a total construction area of 334,200 square meters (including non-school property rights and independent use of the school). The campus has complete infrastructure such as teaching buildings, Laolong Normal Memorial Building, student apartments, teachers and students canteens, libraries, school history museums, training centers, academic exchange centers, gymnasiums, etc.; cultural attractions such as Huicui Lake, Xianneng Square, Xiaoyin Square, Mingde Rong, Taoli Garden, Shuangxin Garden, and Shuxiang Garden contain rich cultural connotations. The unique geographical location and beautiful campus environment make the school an ideal place for students to study, cultivate themselves and hone their skills. The school was established in 2001 by upgrading the Guangdong Laolong Normal School founded in 1930. In 2004, it moved to Heyuan City as a whole. At the end of 2007, it passed the evaluation of the talent training level of higher vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, it became one of the 15 vocational colleges in the province that independently recruited students for secondary and higher vocational education. In 2011, it became one of the pilot colleges for three-two stage enrollment in the province. In 2013, it was approved by the second batch of Guangdong Provincial Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges Project. In 2018, it passed the project acceptance and became a Guangdong Provincial Demonstration Higher Vocational College. In August 2022, the school obtained the project approval from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and became one of the 30 provincial high-level higher vocational college construction units in the province. The school currently has 14,885 students and 659 faculty members (including on-the-job and hired personnel), including 574 full-time teachers, including 157 associate senior titles or above, 379 doctors and masters, and 431 dual-qualified teachers. The school consists of 7 teaching colleges and departments, including the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, the School of Business Administration, the Laolong Normal College, the School of Humanities and Arts, the School of Continuing Education, and the School of Marxism; it has 48 majors, including intelligent manufacturing technology of polymer materials, embedded technology application, tourism management, clothing and apparel design, and preschool education; it has established 6 provincial high-level professional groups, including electronic information engineering technology, tourism management, preschool education, mold design and manufacturing, industrial and commercial enterprise management, and embedded technology application; it has established 45 on-campus internship bases and 463 off-campus internship bases; the current teaching and scientific research internship equipment assets are worth 157 million yuan, and the library has a paper collection of 1.1502 million volumes. The school adheres to the leadership of the Party, the goal of "first-class in the province and leading in the country", the reform of education and teaching, and the "rule awareness, responsibility and conscience". It actively explores the "four-party linkage" school-running system and mechanism of government, industry, enterprise and school, innovates the talent training model of industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation, promotes the "teaching and practice integration" teaching reform, closely combines the school teaching process with the enterprise production process, and highlights the "action-oriented, project-based, ability-based, and learning-based" teaching, and effectively improves students' professional knowledge, skills and job adaptability. It has 2 majors in the "Higher Vocational Schools to Improve Professional Service Industry Development Capacity Project" of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, 3 key majors of the Ministry of Education, 1 major of the integration of industry and education of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, 2 provincial demonstration majors, 5 provincial key majors, and 3 provincial brand majors; 3 national modern apprenticeship pilot majors, 10 provincial modern apprenticeship pilot majors; 11 pilot majors for high-level collaborative education. There are 3 national-level quality courses, 5 quality courses of the Ministry of Education's Teaching Steering Committee, and 33 provincial-level quality (high-quality) courses. The school has outstanding results in skill competitions. Since the country held the National Vocational College Skills Competition in 2008, our school has formed a team to represent Guangdong Province in the National Vocational College Skills Competition, and won a total of 76 awards, including 10 first prizes, 41 second prizes, and 25 third prizes. The total number of awards ranked fourth in Guangdong Province. The school has ranked among the top three in the province in the provincial vocational college skills competition for three consecutive years (2021, 2022, and 2023). The school attaches great importance to scientific research, integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and serving local economic development. The school's scientific research platform construction has made new breakthroughs, and has built 1 Guangdong Provincial Doctoral Workstation, 3 Guangdong Provincial Applied Technology Collaborative Innovation Centers, 5 Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Centers, 1 Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Center, 2 Guangdong Provincial Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platforms, 10 Heyuan Engineering Technology Research Centers, 1 Heyuan Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Center, and 2 Heyuan Technology Application Research Institutes. There are 3 innovation teams of teachers in ordinary colleges and universities in Guangdong Province. In the past five years, they have undertaken more than 800 scientific research projects at or above the municipal level, including more than 260 projects at or above the provincial level; published more than 250 books (textbooks), published more than 2,000 papers, including 312 papers published in core journals and above; obtained 305 authorized national patents, including 42 invention patents; the total amount of scientific research funds is more than 28 million yuan, of which more than 12 million yuan is received for horizontal technical services. The school took the lead in establishing the School-Enterprise Cooperation Council in June 2013, and established the "Heyuan Vocational Education Group" in December 2021, building a close school-enterprise cooperation platform of "government, business, enterprise, school, and four-party co-construction", with 156 member units. The school implements "strategic cooperation" with the "five counties and three districts" industrial parks and science and technology departments of Heyuan City, and has established a normalized working mechanism for science and technology commissioners. More than 30 school-level science and technology commissioners are selected each year to form a science and technology service team to serve more than 200 small and medium-sized enterprises in Heyuan. Every year, more than 20 provincial and municipal rural science and technology commissioners are selected to go deep into more than 30 towns in Heyuan City to carry out talent docking and scientific and technological services, providing strong technical and talent support for rural revitalization and development. In recent years, the school has a high rate of graduates' graduation destination implementation, good employment quality, and the satisfaction rate of graduates' employers has reached 92%. As graduates are widely welcomed by the society, the school's enrollment situation is gratifying. At present, the school recruits students from 12 provinces across the country, and the registration rate of new students in 2023 will reach 89.2%. The school has established counterpart assistance relationships with 7 colleges and universities in and outside the province, including Jiangxi Ji'an Vocational and Technical College, Jieyang Vocational and Technical College, Heping County Technical School, and Heyuan Modern Vocational and Technical School; and signed cooperation agreements with 14 universities in Taiwan to carry out short-term exchange student programs. The school actively establishes close cooperative relations with well-known foreign universities, including the University of Connecticut and the University of Maryland in the United States, the University of Windsor in Canada, Central Queensland University and the University of Wollongong in Australia, York St. John's University and the University of Northampton in the United Kingdom, Kyungwon University and Daegu University in South Korea, and Kluk University in Thailand. Through international cooperation, we continue to explore and practice Sino-foreign joint talent training models such as the "3+1" academic degree improvement and exchange student exchanges, so that the school's internationalization level can be continuously improved.
