The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a vibrant university with a proud history and outstanding achievements. Its predecessor was the Hong Kong Polytechnic (developed from the Hong Kong Technical College and the Hong Kong Government Advanced Technical College), and was renamed the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994. PolyU is located next to the Hung Hom Cross-Harbour Tunnel and covers an area of about 93,500 square meters. In the past decade, PolyU has experienced a large-scale and rapid expansion. PolyU is now the University Grants Committee-funded university with the largest number of students in Hong Kong, and the courses it offers are able to meet the needs of the business community and the public. While meeting the human resources needs of Hong Kong society, PolyU also actively provides professional consulting, training and applied research services to public and private organizations. Through these services, the university has also established a close partnership with the business community. The university is also committed to cultivating first-choice graduates who have both professional knowledge and independent thinking, as well as good communication skills and a broad vision. In addition, PolyU has implemented a credit system to allow students to have more flexibility in choosing subjects and learning progress. PolyU has trained more than 250,000 students over the years.
