Huaiyin Institute of Technology is located in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, the hometown of Premier Zhou Enlai and a national historical and cultural city. It was founded in 1958 and is a provincial undergraduate college with distinctive application characteristics. It is now a master's degree awarding institution, a pilot university for the National "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program", the first and second batches of "New Engineering" research and practice project pilot universities of the Ministry of Education, the first batch of pilot universities for the "Hundred Cities and Thousands of Schools" plan of the China University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, and a demonstration base for China's industry-university-research cooperation innovation. It is the vice chairman unit of the National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Alliance, the vice chairman unit of the Applied Undergraduate Branch of the China Education International Exchange Association, the chairman unit of the Jiangsu-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance, and the vice chairman unit of the Jiangsu Higher Education Society. In the past three years, in the annual comprehensive assessment of the province, the school has been rated first twice, and the school leadership team has been rated excellent for two consecutive years. The school currently has three campuses: Meicheng Road, Beijing Road, and Xiaohu. The campus covers an area of 1.7 million square meters and the school building area is 710,000 square meters. There are 22 teaching and research units, with more than 22,000 full-time students, including more than 1,000 master's students. There are more than 2,000 faculty and staff, including more than 1,400 full-time teachers; 698 master's tutors (including enterprises and part-time), and 10 part-time doctoral tutors. There are 7 national talents such as experts with special allowances from the State Council, and 21 national talents have been introduced; there are 32 provincial key talents such as young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Jiangsu Province, provincial teaching teachers, provincial specially appointed professors, provincial skill masters, Jiangsu Foreign Experts Hundred, and Provincial Industrial Professors, and 2 second-level talents in the provincial "333 High-level Talent Training Project"; more than 480 provincial talent projects such as the provincial "Double Innovation Plan", "Six Talent Peaks", and "Blue and Green Project"; there are 14 provincial excellent teaching teams, scientific and technological innovation teams, and social science teams. The school has 6 provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" key disciplines and 2 ESI global top 1% disciplines. In the past five years, the university has been approved for more than 100 national scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and the Social Science Foundation, more than 300 provincial and ministerial projects, and won more than 20 provincial and ministerial awards such as the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and the Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award as the first unit; more than 950 national invention patents have been authorized, and more than 900 patents have been converted, with a patent conversion amount of more than 30 million yuan. There are 5 national platforms such as the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, the National Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center, the National Engineering Practice Education Center, the National University Science and Technology Park, and the National Cross-Strait Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Point, as well as 53 provincial and ministerial platforms such as the Ministry of Education ICT Industry-Education Integration Innovation Base, the Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Deep Utilization of Rock Salt and Concave Soil Resources, the Provincial Salt Chemical Engineering Practice Education Center, the Provincial Industrial Talent Training Demonstration Base, and the Provincial University Student Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base, achieving full coverage of provincial and above platforms for disciplines and majors. The school has 9 majors that have passed the professional certification of engineering education, 8 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 2 national characteristic majors, 8 national excellence plan pilot majors, and 2 national "comprehensive reform of majors" pilot projects; 17 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 4 provincial brand characteristic professional construction sites, and 6 provincial industry-education integration brand majors; 1 provincial key industry college has been approved. In the past 5 years, it has been approved for 7 first prizes of provincial teaching achievement awards; 3 national "golden courses", 23 provincial "golden courses", 36 provincial boutique online open courses, 2 provincial ideological and political demonstration courses, and 5 provincial industry-education integration first-class courses; 50 key textbooks at the provincial and ministerial levels or above. The school has independently trained full-time master's students for 11 years, and was approved as a master's degree awarding unit in 2021. There are currently 3 master's degree authorization points in materials and chemical engineering, transportation, agriculture and other majors. The enrollment scale of postgraduate students has continued to grow. The university has been approved to have 5 provincial excellent postgraduate workstations, 2 provincial excellent postgraduate courses, 2 provincial postgraduate education reform achievement awards, 6 provincial excellent master's degree theses, and many papers with postgraduates as the first author have been published in top international chemical industry journals. In the past five years, students have won 1 gold medal and 3 bronze medals in the "Chuang Qingchun" national competition, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals in the "Internet +" national competition, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal and 1 third prize in the "Challenge Cup" national competition, and more than 7,300 awards for subject competitions at the provincial level and above. It ranks 262nd in the national ranking of undergraduate competitions for ordinary undergraduate colleges in the past five years, and ranks 146th in 2022. The admission rate for postgraduate entrance examinations has remained above 20% for 6 consecutive years. The university has carried out special actions for secretaries and presidents to visit enterprises to expand positions and promote employment, and has been awarded the provincial advanced collective for employment work for many consecutive years; it has been awarded the provincial excellent unit for student aid performance assessment and the provincial pilot unit for the reform of the long-term mechanism of precise funding. The school has deepened the "1111" project of high-quality development of school-city integration, actively implemented the strategy of "cross-river development, southward strength", and comprehensively deepened the integration and development with counties and districts in Jiangsu Province. Since 2017, more than 2,000 cooperation projects have been signed, and the scientific research cooperation funds have exceeded 530 million yuan. The school's Higher Education Research Institute was rated as a "National Excellent Higher Education Research Institution"; the Subei Development Research Institute was approved as a "provincial key cultivation think tank" and was selected into the top 100 Chinese think tank index source library. The research results have been repeatedly approved by the main leaders of the state, province and city. The school has established friendly cooperative relations with 60 universities in 22 countries and Taiwan, and cooperated with Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences in Finland to carry out undergraduate education in logistics engineering, and co-established the "China-Europe Canal Culture Research and Exchange Center" with the University of Salento in Italy, and co-established the "Huaiyin Institute of Technology Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Center" with the Huai'an Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and the Czech Chinese Business Federation, and carried out joint training doctoral programs with universities such as the University of Lorraine in France and Nagasaki University of Science and Technology in Japan. There are 221 international students in the school, including 123 international graduate students, and an average of more than 100 teachers and students go abroad for exchange each year. In the past five years, the school has won two provincial "14th Five-Year Plan" brand majors for international talent training in colleges and universities, two international joint laboratory construction projects in colleges and universities, and one key platform construction project for the introduction of overseas high-level talents, three provincial foreign expert studios, and one foreign expert of the "Jiangsu Friendship Award" and "Jiangsu People's Friendship Envoy", and one foreign expert of the "Jiangsu Province May 1 Labor Honor Medal". The Taiwan Business College has won three education exchange projects with Taiwan from the Ministry of Education, and the Provincial Federation of Trade Unions and the Provincial Taiwan Affairs Office have awarded the "Huai'an Taiwan Investment Aggregation Demonstration Zone Industrial Workers Training College", and continue to promote the construction of national-level cross-strait youth entrepreneurship and employment demonstration sites.
