Huanggang Normal University is located in Huanggang City, Hubei Province, the core area of Wuhan Metropolitan Area, a cultural center and a livable city in China. It is a full-time undergraduate college run by the People's Government of Hubei Province and the first higher education institution in Huanggang City with a population of 7.3 million. The predecessor of the school was the "Huangzhou Prefecture Normal School" founded in 1905. It has undergone changes such as "Provincial Huanggang Rural Normal School", "Hubei Provincial Huanggang Normal School" and "Huanggang Normal College". In March 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to the undergraduate level of "Huanggang Normal University". In October 2011, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee approved the school to independently carry out graduate education for the master's degree in education. After more than a hundred years of hard work, the school has now developed into a multidisciplinary university involving 11 major disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. It has two levels of education: master's degree and undergraduate. The professional system is relatively complete, with 20 teaching colleges and 70 undergraduate majors. The school currently has a campus area of 2,012 acres, recruiting students from 22 provinces and cities across the country, with 19,414 full-time students. The school vigorously implements the "two highs" development strategy of strengthening the school with talents, and strives to promote the "100 Doctor Introduction Project". There are 1,191 full-time teachers, including 163 senior teachers, 409 associate senior teachers, and 503 doctors; there are more than 100 national and provincial honorary experts. The school has hired more than 100 well-known scholars, professors, and doctoral supervisors from key universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University as part-time professors. In 2023, the school's Huangmei Opera Cultural Inheritance and Innovation Teacher Team was selected into the third batch of "National University Huang Danian-style Teacher Team". There are 43 provincial and above teaching achievement awards, 1 provincial pilot college, 24 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 4 provincial brand majors, 11 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 12 provincial teaching teams, 15 provincial excellent grassroots teaching organizations, 6 provincial emerging (pillar) industry talent training plan projects, 5 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 6 provincial Jingchu Excellence Plan projects, 70 provincial first-class courses and quality courses, and 134 provincial teaching research projects. The quality of talent cultivation in the school has been continuously improved. Since 2012, the university has started to independently train graduate students for master of education. Currently, it has 10 teaching colleges and 11 fields to recruit master of education students from all over the country. It has trained 613 master students and 797 graduate students on campus. There are 210 master of education tutors, including 15 national outstanding teachers for master of education and 3 national outstanding teaching management workers for master of education. Currently, there is 1 national joint training demonstration base for master of education students and 7 Hubei provincial graduate workstations. The university has won more than 70 awards such as the National Full-time Master of Education Professional Teaching Skills Competition and the National Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition. More than half of the students have won provincial and municipal teaching skills competition awards. The school promotes scientific research and social services in a coordinated manner. It currently has one national base for the inheritance of China's excellent traditional culture among ordinary colleges and universities, one "Science and Technology Courtyard" of the China Rural Professional and Technical Association, three advantageous and characteristic disciplines of Hubei universities in the "14th Five-Year Plan" (including one cultivation discipline group), and five Hubei provincial key disciplines and provincial key cultivation disciplines; two Hubei provincial key laboratories, one Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center, four key research bases for humanities and social sciences in colleges and universities in Hubei Province, one Hubei Zhongke Industrial Technology Research Institute, five Hubei school-enterprise joint innovation centers, and one Hubei Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center; one Hubei Technology Transfer Demonstration Institution, one Hubei Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Pilot Research Base, one Hubei Technical Transformation Consulting and Diagnosis Service Platform, one provincial service-oriented manufacturing demonstration platform, and one Hubei Intellectual Property Training Base; there are more than 20 on-campus research institutions such as Li Shizhen Big Health Industry Research Institute, Dabie Mountain Rural Revitalization Research Institute, and Huanggang Basic Education Development Research Institute. In recent years, the school has hosted 46 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 37 National Social Science Foundation projects, 110 projects from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the State Sports General Administration, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and 340 projects from Hubei Provincial Natural Science Foundation and Social Science Foundation. The school has won 64 scientific research achievements, 43 teaching achievements, 107 provincial and ministerial awards and above (inclusive), and nearly 622 invention patents and utility model patents. The school has extensive international exchanges and is a member of the China Education International Exchange Association. It has established exchanges and cooperation with universities and institutions in more than 50 countries and regions, including Japan, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It has hired more than 300 foreign experts and scholars to teach and give lectures at the school, sent more than 310 academic backbones to foreign universities and scientific research institutions for training, cooperation and exchanges, and selected nearly 200 teachers and students to go abroad to carry out international Chinese education.
