Hubei Light Industry Vocational and Technical College is a full-time general higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of Education of China, sponsored by the People's Government of Hubei Province, and directly under the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. The college enjoys the advantages of Wuhan Education, Science and Technology and Culture Center. It is located in Shipailing, Wuchang Wuluo Road, within the Second Ring Road of Wuhan, with a superior location and convenient transportation. The college was founded in 1956. Its predecessor was affiliated with the former Ministry of Food Industry. In 1972, it was renamed "Hubei Light Industry School"; in 1987, it cooperated with the former Federal Republic of Germany's "Hans. Seidel Foundation" and took the lead in introducing the Federal Republic of Germany's "dual system" vocational education and teaching model in the country; in 1996, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to take the lead in holding higher vocational education in the country. The overall school conditions, school strength, and school level of the college are firmly in the forefront of higher vocational colleges in Hubei Province. The college's German "dual system" localized school-running model has obvious characteristics. This school-running feature was summarized and won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement in 2018. With rich experience and outstanding achievements in Sino-foreign cooperative education, the college has become a window for Hubei Province's education cooperation with foreign countries and a model for Sino-foreign vocational education cooperation, and has had a wide impact in the field of higher vocational education in the country. The total building area of the college is more than 110,000 square meters, the total value of fixed assets is 320 million yuan (excluding land), the total value of teaching equipment is more than 80 million yuan, and the library has a collection of 408,000 books (including electronic books). The college has a first-class "Beer Training Center" in China, "Mechatronics Training Center", "Biotechnology Training Center", "Architectural Decoration Training Center" with complete facilities and equipment, etc. It currently has two training bases supported by the central government, three provincial training bases, more than 80 laboratories and testing rooms with complete facilities, and more than 160 off-campus internship and training bases across the country. Most of the professional teachers of the beer brewing major have studied in Germany for more than one year and have obtained technician qualification certificates issued by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Handicraft Guild. There are also 2 foreign teachers and 16 Chutian skilled teachers. The college has a total of 7 teaching colleges and departments and a public course department, offering more than 30 majors such as CNC technology, brewing technology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, modern papermaking technology, mechatronics technology, industrial robot technology, CNC technology, electronic information engineering technology, food inspection and testing technology, construction engineering technology, marketing, big data and accounting, advertising art design, architectural decoration engineering technology, and exhibition planning and management. The majors cover multiple application fields such as machinery, electromechanical, electrical, electronics, telecommunications, computers, accounting, food, biology, papermaking, construction, advertising, decoration, etc. The college has one national pilot teaching reform major, one national quality course, one provincial pilot teaching reform major, five provincial quality courses, one provincial teaching team, more than 30 provincial projects, 18 higher vocational and technical college textbooks published by teachers, 18 provincial scientific research results, and 5 technical patents. The college recruits students nationwide and has trained more than 160,000 professional talents of various types for the country, and its graduates are spread all over the country. The college is a special occupation skill appraisal station established by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, a national beer testing center and a beer brewing professional talent training base, and a key vocational teacher training base set up by the Ministry of Education.
