Hubei Second Normal University is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, a crossroads of nine provinces. It is a provincial general undergraduate college with teacher education as its main feature, and the coordinated development of disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, management and art. It is one of the important bases for teacher education in Hubei Province, a pilot university for the Ministry of Education to promote the construction of the teacher team with artificial intelligence, a construction university for the Ministry of Education's "Internet + Made in China 2025" industry-education integration promotion plan, and the main training school for Hubei Province's "Excellent Teacher Plan". It is the "Hubei Province 2011 Plan"-the leading university of the Hubei Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Basic Education Information Technology Services, and was approved as the third batch of national language and writing promotion bases in 2023. The predecessor of the school was the Hubei Provincial Education College founded in 1931. In 1990, the school was renamed Hubei Education College, and Hubei Industrial School and Hubei Economic Management Cadre College were merged in 2003 and 2009 respectively. In 2007, Hubei Second Normal University was established on the basis of Hubei Education College, creating a precedent for the transformation of provincial education colleges into general undergraduate colleges. Over the past 90 years since its establishment, the school has trained more than 300,000 outstanding talents and made outstanding contributions to basic education and regional economic and social development. The school is located in the core area of China's Optics Valley, with beautiful mountains and rivers and convenient transportation. The campus covers an area of 1,723 acres and a building area of 514,100 square meters. There are 15 secondary colleges, 57 general undergraduate majors, and 17,000 full-time students. There are 1,328 faculty and staff, including 442 teachers with senior professional titles. 115 teachers are employed as master's and doctoral supervisors by universities such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Central China Normal University, Hubei University, Yangtze University, and Hubei Normal University. 48 teachers enjoy State Council subsidies, provincial government subsidies, and have won honorary titles such as national outstanding teachers. A total of 92 high-level talents have been hired. The school actively responded to the "Teacher Education Revitalization Action Plan" and the two "Teacher Education Comprehensive Reform Experimental Zones" jointly created with Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone and Ezhou Education Bureau were approved as provincial teacher education communities. Deep strategic cooperation with the Provincial Sports Bureau has been established to create a "model project" for the integration of sports and education. The Hubei Provincial Primary and Secondary School Teachers' Business Guidance Organization - Hubei Provincial General Education Cadre Training Center and Hubei Provincial Primary and Secondary School Teachers' Continuing Education Center are located in the school, playing an important role in serving and leading the reform and development of basic education in the province. The school attaches great importance to discipline construction and has built a discipline construction system with five levels of layout, including two provincial advantageous and characteristic discipline groups of teacher education and advanced energy storage materials, school-level key discipline groups, key disciplines, cultivation disciplines and cultivation discipline directions. The school currently has 23 majors approved as national and provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, including primary education, Chinese language and literature, journalism, physics, computer science and technology, and preschool education. Six majors have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Seven majors, including primary education, Chinese language and literature, physics, mathematics and applied mathematics, English, ideological and political education, and fine arts, have conditionally passed the second-level certification of the Ministry of Education's normal majors. There are 28 national and provincial teaching teams, grassroots teaching organizations, and famous teacher studios represented by the first batch of "Huang Danian-style teacher teams in national universities", 5 national and provincial comprehensive professional reform pilot projects, 9 provincial talent training plan projects, 15 provincial pilot colleges, experimental teaching demonstration centers, virtual simulation experimental teaching projects and internship training bases, and 94 national and provincial first-class courses, high-quality resource sharing courses and famous teacher classrooms. It has held teaching reform experimental classes such as Xingzhi Experimental Class, International Engineering Base Class, Compound Talent Experimental Class, and Innovative Talent Experimental Class, and has established Smart Education Industry College and Intelligent Manufacturing Industry College. Since 2008, the school has jointly cultivated professional masters in preschool education, primary education, electronic information engineering, power engineering, art design and other directions with universities such as Central China Normal University, Yangtze University, Hubei Normal University, Wuhan University of Technology, and Wuhan University of Science and Technology. The school attaches great importance to scientific research. It currently has 10 provincial scientific research platforms, including the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory for Purification and Application of Plant Anticancer Active Substances, the Hubei Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Basic Education Information Technology Services, the Hubei Provincial Education Cloud Service Engineering Technology Research Center, the Hubei Provincial Environmental Purification Material Engineering Technology Research Center, the Hubei Terahertz Technology and New Energy Materials and Devices Expert Workstation, and the Hubei BIM Smart Construction International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, as well as three provincial (department) level think tanks, including the Hubei Education High-Quality Development Research Center (cultivation), Hubei Teacher Education Research Center, and Hubei Teacher Development Research Institute. In recent years, the school has won 60 national self-scientific and social science fund projects, more than 300 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, and the Provincial Science and Technology Support Plan, the Provincial Self-scientific Fund, and the Provincial Social Science Fund, and nearly 800 provincial and departmental scientific research projects such as the Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and nearly 300 patent authorizations and software copyrights. The school has won more than 50 provincial and ministerial awards, including the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, Hubei Provincial Social Science Achievement Award, Hubei Provincial Excellent Research Achievement Award, and Hubei Provincial Development Research Award. The school adheres to the principle of open education and actively expands all-round, wide-ranging, and multi-level international exchanges and cooperation. It has established exchanges and cooperation relations with more than 50 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions. It has been approved as the "Hubei International Scientific Research Cooperation Base", and has cooperated with the United States, New Zealand and other countries to hold three Sino-foreign cooperative education projects and established the "International Chinese Education and Cultural Exchange Center". It supports teachers to carry out international scientific research cooperation, actively sends teachers to visit and study abroad and conduct joint scientific research, and invites many foreign teachers and well-known foreign experts and scholars to teach and lecture at the school.
