Hubei University of Arts and Sciences, School of Science and Engineering, is a full-time general undergraduate independent college established in June 2003 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China. The school is located in Xiangyang, a national historical and cultural city with a history of 2,800 years and a sub-central city of Hubei Province. In 2019, Hanjiang State-owned Capital Investment Group, the largest state-owned company in Xiangyang City, participated in the construction of the school as the new sole investor, providing strong financial and resource guarantees for the school's development. The school has always adhered to the educational thought of "treating students as one's own children and educating people with the heart of parents", adhered to the application-oriented school-running positioning, followed the talent training concept of "highlighting professional characteristics and strengthening practical links", and took the road of "discipline-based school, talent-based school, highlighting characteristics, and differentiated development". The first phase of the school covers an area of 521 acres, with a total building area of 189,000 square meters. The library has a total area of 35,000 square meters, with a collection of 770,000 paper documents, 1 million electronic books, 163,000 electronic journals, more than 4 million dissertations, and 26 examination and postgraduate entrance examination databases. Modern educational technology equipment is complete, with more than 100 experimental training bases such as professional laboratories and off-campus internship bases, and complete sports and living facilities. Relying on the strong faculty and high-quality school resources of its parent institution, Hubei University of Arts and Sciences, the school has built a faculty team with high moral character, great academic potential and vitality. There are 308 faculty members, including 194 full-time teachers (62 associate senior teachers and above), and 55 part-time teachers are hired in accordance with the principle of combining full-time and part-time teachers and focusing on full-time teachers. The school offers 27 undergraduate majors and 11 junior college majors, covering 8 major disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, management, and art, and recruits students from 22 provinces across the country. At present, the total number of students is 11,072, including 6,268 undergraduates and 4,804 junior college students. The school focuses on cultivating students' innovative spirit and practical ability. Every year, students win awards in national and provincial science and technology innovation and skill competitions such as the National College Student Structural Design Information Technology Competition, the National College Student Computer Design Competition Electronic Design Competition, and the National College Student Advertising Art Competition. In 2023, students of the school won 373 national awards and 352 provincial awards in various subject competitions. The school has been successively rated as a provincial safe campus in Hubei Province, an advanced grassroots unit for ideological and political education in Hubei Province, an excellent university in Hubei Province for undergraduate professional teaching qualification assessment, and one of the top ten excellent independent colleges in the country. In 2023, it was awarded the title of "Provincial Safe Campus Construction" with outstanding achievements and "Hubei Province Top Ten University Fire Volunteer Service Team".
