Hubei University of Chinese Medicine is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province. It has two campuses, Tanhualin Campus and Huangjiahu Campus, covering a total area of 1,610 mu and a total building area of 543,000 square meters. The university was founded in 1958 and is the only undergraduate college of Chinese medicine in Hubei Province. Its predecessor was the Hubei Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1954. In 2003, the former Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the former Hubei Pharmaceutical Inspection College merged to form the new Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was renamed Hubei University of Chinese Medicine in March 2010. The university is jointly established by the Hubei Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is one of the earliest universities in my country to offer undergraduate and graduate education in traditional Chinese medicine. It is an excellent university in the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education. It is the first provincial university in Hubei Province to have the right to confer doctoral degrees in first-level disciplines, and the first provincial university in Hubei Province to have a postdoctoral research mobile station. It is the first batch of universities in the country to accept foreign students, and the first batch of provincial universities in our province to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative education. It is a project construction university of the "National Basic Capacity Construction Project for Colleges and Universities in Central and Western China" and a "domestic first-class discipline construction university" in Hubei Province. The school has a complete range of levels, including 7 disciplines and 35 undergraduate majors, including medicine, science, engineering, management, literature, education, and economics. It has 3 doctoral degree authorization points, 13 master's degree authorization points, and 2 first-level discipline postdoctoral mobile stations. Hubei is the hometown of Shennong, the hometown of Li Shizhen, and an important birthplace of traditional Chinese medicine culture. The school promotes the Shizhen spirit of "seeking truth, seeking reality, being diligent and broad-minded", adheres to the school-running philosophy of "giving equal importance to inheritance and innovation, integrating science and humanities", and upholds the school motto of "diligent, realistic, excavating and innovating", and has achieved fruitful results in talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation. In the course of more than 60 years of schooling, it has trained more than 100,000 graduates, and a group of outstanding experts and scholars in the field of traditional Chinese medicine at home and abroad have emerged, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, academicians of the Eurasian Academy of Sciences, national medical masters, nationally renowned traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, chief scientists of the 973 Chinese Medicine Project, Yangtze River Scholars, and Qihuang Scholars. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the school gave full play to the unique advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, carried out scientific research on epidemic diseases, volunteered to serve on the front line of anti-epidemic efforts, and a group of advanced collectives and individuals in the fight against the epidemic emerged. The school has 15 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and traditional Chinese medicine has been selected as a discipline for cultivation and construction of "domestic first-class disciplines" in Hubei Province; it has 4 provincial higher education advantage disciplines (groups), 14 provincial key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine; it has 5 key specialties of the National Health Commission, 9 key specialties of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 21 provincial key specialties. The Department of Hepatology and the Department of Nephrology have entered the ranks of national regional diagnosis and treatment centers; the disciplines of clinical medicine and pharmacology and toxicology have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school has 3 national medical masters, 4 national famous Chinese medicine practitioners, academicians of the Academy of Sciences of Developed Countries, Yangtze River Scholars, scientific and technological leaders of the Ten Thousand Talents Plan, the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program, the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "Hundred Talents Program", the National Traditional Chinese Medicine Leading Talents Support Program-Qihuang Scholars, and 12 National Traditional Chinese Medicine Outstanding Contribution Awards. The school insists on innovation as the first driving force, and has established the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicine Resources and Chinese Medicine Compounds, the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Chinese Medicine Protection Technology and New Product R&D for Elderly Brain Health, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Level 3 Laboratory and Key Research Room; it takes the lead in establishing, operating and managing the Hubei Shizhen Laboratory (the tenth Hubei Provincial Laboratory); it has the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicine Resources and Chinese Medicine Chemistry, the Hubei Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center, the Authentic Medicinal Materials and Innovative Chinese Medicine New Product R&D Technology Innovation Base, the International Cooperation Base for Acupuncture and Moxibustion to Prevent Diseases, the Hubei Collaborative Innovation Center and other 15 provincial and Wuhan scientific research platforms. The school is a national clinical research base for traditional Chinese medicine, a project construction unit for the National Center for the Inheritance and Innovation of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a national traditional Chinese medicine epidemic prevention and control team and epidemic prevention and control base. The school actively carries out foreign exchanges and cooperation, and has carried out strategic cooperation in industry, academia and research with more than 20 cities (counties and districts) and well-known enterprises, jointly built a "Chinese Medicine Industry Research Institute", and established more than 30 social scholarships.
