Hubei University of Technology was founded in 1952. It is a multidisciplinary university with engineering as its main discipline, and coordinated development of ten disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, science, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary disciplines. It is a "double first-class" construction university in Hubei Province, a national "basic capacity building project for colleges and universities in central and western China", a typical graduate employment experience university in the country, a national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, a national intellectual property pilot university, a national "pilot unit for granting scientific research personnel ownership or long-term use rights of scientific and technological achievements", the first batch of national modern industrial college construction units, and a national advanced civilized campus school. The school covers an area of more than 1,600 acres, with a school building area of more than 1.1 million square meters. It has complete teaching, scientific research, cultural and sports and logistics service facilities, advanced basic laboratories and professional laboratories, a safe and unobstructed campus network and a smart and fast school affairs platform. The student apartments are equipped with air conditioning, independent toilets and hot and cold water bathing facilities. The school library has a construction area of 45,800 square meters and is an excellent library of higher education institutions in Hubei Province. The school has 18 teaching units, including 4 modern industry colleges such as Chip Industry College, Intelligent Manufacturing Industry College, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Industry College, and Digital Art Industry College, and 1 Excellent Engineer College. The school enrolls students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country. There are more than 20,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 7,000 doctoral and master's students, and nearly 1,000 international students. The school currently has more than 1,500 full-time teachers, including more than 800 teachers with senior professional titles, 32 national talents (times), and 168 provincial and ministerial talents (times). The school has also successively hired more than 400 part-time professors, including many academicians, from famous universities, research institutes, and large enterprises and institutions at home and abroad, forming a high-level faculty team led by national talents, provincial and ministerial talents as the backbone, and young and middle-aged doctoral teachers as the backbone. The school currently has 56 undergraduate majors, including 31 national first-class professional construction sites, 4 national characteristic majors, 3 majors of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program", 3 majors of the "Excellent Teacher Training Program", and 8 Hubei provincial first-class professional construction sites. 19 majors such as mechanical design, manufacturing and automation have passed the China Engineering Education Professional Certification or the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development's professional evaluation. There are 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 national engineering practice education centers, and 20 Hubei provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and internship training bases. The school currently has 3 national-level boutique video open courses, 13 national-level first-class courses, and 66 provincial-level first-class courses; 1 national-level ideological and political demonstration project, and 2 provincial-level ideological and political demonstration projects. The school has been approved as one Huang Danian-style teacher team in national universities and 14 excellent teaching teams in Hubei Province, and has won 2 national excellent teaching achievement awards and 1 national textbook construction award. In recent years, college students have achieved excellent results in various competitions and cultural and sports activities at all levels. The school ranked 66th in the "National General College Student Competition Eight Rounds Overall List" released by the China Higher Education Society, and ranked 50th in the "2019-2023 National General College Student Competition List". Among them, it ranked 19th in the "2023 National General College Student Competition List". The school has 2 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 23 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 21 master's professional degree authorization categories. In recent years, the school has actively connected with the strategic needs of national green industrial development and traditional industrial greening, focusing on the development needs of Hubei Province's five major advantageous industries, and continuously implementing the "135+" discipline development strategy with green industry as its distinctive feature. There is 1 "Double First-Class" construction discipline in Hubei Province, 4 advantageous and characteristic discipline groups in Hubei Province, 1 advantageous discipline in Hubei Province, 5 characteristic disciplines in Hubei Province and 4 key (cultivation) disciplines in Hubei Province; 4 disciplines including engineering, agricultural science, chemistry, and materials science are among the top 1% of ESI, and 3 disciplines including food science and engineering, power electronics engineering, and bioengineering are selected as world-class disciplines by Soft Science. The university has 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 collaborative innovation center jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the province, 1 national engineering research center (co-built), 1 national technology transfer demonstration institution, 1 national modern industrial college, 1 graduate innovation center of the Ministry of Education, 1 postdoctoral research mobile station, 13 Hubei graduate workstations, 5 Hubei key laboratories, 4 Hubei key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 5 provincial pilot research bases for transformation of scientific and technological achievements, 2 Hubei collaborative innovation centers, 15 Hubei engineering technology research centers, 4 Hubei engineering research centers (engineering laboratories), 26 provincial school-enterprise R&D centers, 41 provincial enterprise-school joint innovation centers, and 16 industrial technology research institutes have been established in various cities and prefectures in Hubei. The university adheres to open education, and international exchanges and cooperation in all directions, wide fields and at multiple levels are booming. It has established cooperative relations with more than 160 universities and research institutions in more than 40 countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, etc., and is an advanced unit for expanding opening up in Hubei Province. The school has one Sino-foreign cooperative education institution of the Ministry of Education (Detroit Green Industry College) and four Sino-foreign cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education. It has jointly trained high-level innovative talents at the master and doctoral levels with world-renowned universities such as the University of Alberta in Canada and the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. The school has been approved to have two discipline innovation and intelligence introduction bases of the Ministry of Science and Technology/Ministry of Education, four Hubei Province intelligence introduction and innovation demonstration bases, and two Hubei Province International Scientific Research Cooperation Bases. The school employs more than 50 foreign experts and teachers all year round, including 10 foreign academicians. The school actively promotes China-Africa strategic cooperation and has established the "Hubei University of Technology China-Africa Industrial Innovation Cooperation Center", which is one of the first national collaborative network units of the National China-Africa Innovation Cooperation Center; it has the first national China-Africa joint laboratory; the Green Technology Confucius Institute jointly built by the school and the University of Venda in South Africa was included in the list of achievements of President Xi Jinping's state visit to South Africa. It is the world's first Confucius Institute featuring green technology. The school hosts and undertakes scientific and technological journals such as "China Mechanical Engineering", "Digital Agriculture and Intelligent Agricultural Machinery", and "Journal of Hubei University of Technology". Among them, "China Mechanical Engineering" has been selected into the EI source journal catalog, and has won the "100 Outstanding Chinese Academic Journals" for 12 consecutive years. It has been rated as "China's Excellent Academic Journals with International Influence", "China's Fine Science and Technology Journals", and "Top 100 National Science and Technology Journals" many times.
