Hubei Vocational College of Art is located in Wuhan, a city connected to nine provinces. It currently has three campuses: Huquan, Jiedaokou, and Shipailing. It is a provincial public institution sponsored by the People's Government of Hubei Province and supervised by the Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. It is one of the first batch of key art vocational colleges in the country, a training base for cultural and artistic talents in Hubei Province, a research center for intangible cultural heritage in Hubei Province, and the leading unit of Hubei Vocational College of Art Education Group. In 2021, it was approved to build a provincial-level high-level vocational school, and dance performance and music art projects were approved to build provincial-level high-level professional groups. The school was founded in 1958 and was formerly known as Hubei Opera School. In 1988, it was renamed Hubei Art School and was successively rated as a provincial and national key secondary technical school. After the merger of Hubei Art School, Hubei Culture and Art Cadre School, and Hubei Film Workers Secondary Vocational School, it was officially upgraded to an independent Hubei Vocational College of Art in 2003 with the approval of the Hubei Provincial People's Government. The school has six secondary professional colleges, including the School of Media, the School of Design, the School of Dance, the School of Chinese Opera, the School of Art Education, and the School of Music, and three directly affiliated units, including the Hubei Academy of Arts, the Hubei Youth Experimental Art Troupe, and the Secondary Vocational Department (Hubei Art School). After more than 60 years of exploration, a school-running model has been formed with talent training as the center, stage performance, artistic creation, and cultural research as the support, forming a school-running pattern covering higher vocational and secondary vocational education, academic education and vocational training, and domestic and overseas cooperation. The school offers nearly 30 higher vocational majors such as music performance, dance performance, drama and film performance, and character image design, as well as several secondary vocational majors such as drama performance, dance performance, music performance, and painting. Dance performance and drama performance are key majors supported by the central government; music performance (Hubei folk songs), drama performance, and dance performance (Chinese dance) are national-level demonstration majors for the inheritance and innovation of national culture; dance performance and music performance are brand majors in Hubei Province; drama and film performance are characteristic majors in Hubei Province; music performance, drama and film performance, and character image design are national-level backbone majors. The "Hubei Folk Dance Skills Master Studio" is a national-level skills master studio, and the "Arts 'Dual-qualified' Teacher Training Base" is a national-level dual-qualified teacher training base. The school currently has 8,394 higher vocational students and 768 secondary vocational students. There are 200 full-time teachers, of which 43.5% have senior professional titles, 57.5% have postgraduates and above, and the proportion of dual-qualified teachers reaches 77%. Since its establishment, the school has cultivated batches of outstanding cultural and artistic talents for the society and made outstanding contributions to the prosperity of local cultural and artistic undertakings. In recent years, students have won many national awards such as the first prize of the National Ballroom Dance Championship. Since participating in the "National Vocational College Skills Competition", it has won a total of 11 first prizes, 14 second prizes, and 6 third prizes. The school has achieved fruitful results in stage creation. The dance drama "Living by the Yangtze River" won the "Wenhua Award" and the National Stage Quality Project Award at the 8th China Art Festival; the classical dance "Ji Chu" won the Outstanding Work Award at the 7th CCTV National Television Dance Competition; the Jingzhou Flower Drum Opera "The Story of Hexi Village" was nominated for the "Wenhua Award", and the Jingzhou Flower Drum Opera "Fairy Tale of Life" and Huangmei Opera "Sister Wants to Cross the River" won the "Wenhua Outstanding Repertoire Award"; the dance drama "Waves of Honghu Lake" won the highest award of the 4th Hubei Art Festival, the "Chutian Wenhua Award" and the "Qu Yuan Literary Creation Award", and was approved as a 2023 funding project of the National Art Fund (General Project)-a funding project for communication, exchange and promotion. The school adheres to the characteristic of "school-group integration", actively carries out social services based on art troupes, and strengthens cooperation with various art troupes. Jointly cultivate "opera seedlings" of Chu Opera, Han Opera, and Huangmei Opera with local art troupes such as the Hubei Opera Art Theater, and contribute to the inheritance and promotion of China's excellent traditional culture and the revitalization of Hubei's "opera wharf". The "Hubei Provincial Cultural and Art Talent Training Base" has trained more than 1,300 talents from the "three regions" and other social art backbones for the province, and the annual service scale for children's art training, vocational skills appraisal, and social art level examination is more than 40,000. The school has led delegations to Russia, France, Australia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Laos and other countries for cultural exchange performances many times, and has established stable cooperative school-running relationships with Western Oregon University in the United States, University of South Wales in the United Kingdom, European University of Applied Sciences, Suwon University in South Korea, etc., becoming an important window for foreign cultural exchanges and talent training.
