Hubei Water Resources and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1952. In 2002, it was approved by the People's Government of Hubei Province to establish a general higher vocational college. It is under the jurisdiction of the Hubei Provincial Department of Water Resources and is under the management and guidance of the Hubei Provincial Department of Education. It is a general higher vocational college that mainly cultivates talents in water resources and hydropower related majors. The college is one of the first national demonstration colleges of higher vocational education in water resources, a national high-quality higher vocational college in water resources, a high-quality higher vocational college in Hubei Province, an "effective" unit for provincial review of internal quality assurance system diagnosis and improvement, the best civilized unit in Hubei Province, and a safe campus in Hubei Province. The college is a national demonstration base for sports work in higher vocational colleges, a publicity and education base for water law in Hubei Province, and a level and ability evaluation base for vocational skill level certification institutions in Hubei Province. It is a designated training center of the Ministry of Water Resources, a vocational skill appraisal center for the water resources industry, and a water resources talent service center in Hubei Province. It won the Outstanding Contribution Award for the Cultivation of Skilled Talents in the National Water Resources Industry, the May 1st Labor Medal of Hubei Province, and an Outstanding Unit for Conscription in Hubei Province. The college is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, a thoroughfare connecting nine provinces. The two campuses are located on the banks of the beautiful Nanhu Lake and Tangxun Lake, covering a total area of more than 640 acres and a construction area of more than 420,000 square meters. The college has 8 teaching units, including the Department of Water Conservancy Engineering, the Department of Power Electronics Engineering, the Department of Construction Engineering, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Department of Business Management, the Department of Basic Courses, the Department of Ideological and Political Courses, and the Department of Continuing Education. The total value of the college's fixed assets is more than 534 million yuan, the total value of teaching equipment is more than 139 million yuan, the library has more than 699,700 books, 114 on-campus experimental training venues, 89 off-campus internship training bases, 9 internship training bases at or above the provincial level, including 3 national-level production training bases and 1 national-level virtual simulation training center. With more than 70 years of historical precipitation, the college has condensed the school motto of "cultivating oneself, clarifying one's ambition, and striving for truth in learning" and the school-running spirit of "perseverance and self-improvement". The college took the lead in initiating the establishment of the Hubei Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational Education Group, built the Hubei Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational Education Brand, was selected as a national model vocational education group cultivation unit, and has accumulated typical experience in the integration of production and education and school-enterprise cooperation. The college is widely welcomed by the society and enterprises in the water conservancy and hydropower industry. The employment rate of graduates has remained stable at more than 95% for many years, ranking among the top higher vocational colleges in the province. A large number of outstanding graduates have emerged, represented by Jiang Zhigang, a national model worker and a nominee for a national moral model, Xiong Maoyin, a national May 1st Labor Medal winner, Peng Danfen, a national technical expert and a national chief technician of water conservancy, and Liu Yuancai, a Zhejiang craftsman and an outstanding skill model of Zhejiang Province. It has now developed into an important national water conservancy and hydropower talent training base.
