Hunan Chemical Vocational and Technical College was founded in 1958 and was formerly known as Hunan Chemical Industry School. The school is a public full-time general college organized by the provincial government and directly under the Education Department. It has merged with Hunan Zijiang Chemical School and Hunan Chemical Machinery School (Hunan Industrial Senior Technical School) successively, and was upgraded to a higher vocational college in April 2003. The school is one of the first national demonstration colleges for party building work, a national "double high plan" construction unit, a national high-quality junior college, a national Huang Yanpei vocational education excellent school, a Hunan Chuyi high-level school A-level construction unit, a Hunan provincial model higher vocational college, a Hunan provincial outstanding higher vocational college, and a Hunan "14th Five-Year Plan" undergraduate vocational university preparatory unit. The school adheres to the principle of moral education and quality first. The school currently has more than 17,700 full-time students (including international students). It is an excellent college in the talent training level assessment of the Ministry of Education, a national modern apprenticeship pilot unit, the first batch of demonstration vocational education group (alliance) cultivation units, and a "1+X" certificate system pilot unit. It has won the provincial employment and entrepreneurship "top leader project" excellent unit for seven consecutive times. In the past five years, students have won more than 400 awards in provincial and above vocational skills competitions, including 29 national awards.
