It was founded in 1959, renamed Hunan Zhuzhou School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1986, renamed Hunan School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1990, and upgraded to Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2004. The school is organized by the People's Government of Hunan Province and the administrative management is the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. The school is located in Zhuzhou, the blessed land of the ancestor of the Chinese nation, Emperor Yan Shennong, the power capital, and an important transportation hub in the central and southern regions. It is only a 30-minute drive from the provincial capital Changsha. There are two campuses, Zhuzhou Lusong Campus and Yunlong Campus. The campus environment is beautiful and has a strong atmosphere of traditional Chinese medicine culture. There are complete cultural and sports facilities such as track and field, football field, basketball court, gymnasium and auditorium.
