Hunan University of Science and Technology was founded in 1941. It is a full-time public higher vocational college approved by the Hunan Provincial People's Government, supervised by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, and organized by the large state-owned enterprise Hunan Electric Group. The predecessor of the college was the apprentice training class of the Central Electric Equipment Factory of the National Resources Commission of the National Government. It is one of the earliest vocational skills talent training bases in the country. The college currently has four secondary colleges, namely the Elevator Engineering College, the Wind Energy Engineering College, the Automotive Engineering College, and the Economic Management College, 21 higher vocational majors, 9,396 students, and 360 faculty and staff. Over the years, the college has always adhered to the fundamental principle of cultivating morality and cultivating people, and has set up majors closely in line with the market, industry, and occupation. It has built four characteristic professional groups: new energy equipment technology, elevator engineering technology, automotive technology and services, and productive services. In 2012, the college successfully established the project of "Hunan Demonstration (Key) Higher Vocational College". In 2014 and 2018, the college won the second prize of national teaching achievements twice. In 2015, the college was elected as the chairman unit of the National New Energy Equipment Technology Professional Teaching Steering Committee, and the wind power technology professional group was established as the "Hunan Higher Vocational Demonstration Characteristic Professional Group". In 2016, it passed the acceptance of Hunan Demonstration (Key) Higher Vocational Colleges with an "excellent" grade.
