Hunan Foreign Trade Vocational College is a full-time public general college. Its predecessor was the Hunan Grain School founded in 1954 and the Hunan Foreign Economic and Trade School founded in 1978. In July 2003, the two schools merged and upgraded to form the Hunan Foreign Economic and Trade Vocational College. In October 2010, it was approved by the People's Government of Hunan Province to change its name to its current name. From November 2023, it will be transferred from the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce to the Provincial Department of Education. The school is located at No. 1 Waimao Road, Wangcheng District, Changsha City, covering an area of 673 acres and a building area of nearly 200,000 square meters. The campus hardware facilities are complete and the campus environment is clean and elegant. There are currently 10 secondary colleges (departments) including the International Business College, the School of Business and Foreign Languages, the School of Accounting, the School of E-commerce, the School of Tourism, the School of Art, the School of Foreign Aid Training, the School of Continuing Education and International Cooperation, the Department of Ideological and Political Courses, and the Department of Public Courses. 31 majors have been opened, including international economics and trade, business English, big data and accounting, e-commerce, tourism management, and digital media art design. International economics and trade and cross-border e-commerce are the "high-level" professional groups of Chuyi in Hunan Province. There are more than 10,400 full-time students and more than 500 faculty and staff. The school adheres to the school motto of "honesty and diligence", closely follows the school philosophy of "running schools with an international perspective and cultivating high-end business talents", closely connects with Hunan's business and open economy, highlights the "foreign" school characteristics of "foreign trade + foreign languages", creates a "government, business, campus, enterprise and school" collaborative education system, establishes a campus culture with the "three sincerity spirits" (loyalty to the party and the country, honesty in words and deeds, and honesty in workplace communication) as the core, and cultivates high-quality compound talents with "foreign language + skills + cultural literacy". The school is the first batch of Hunan Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges, the first batch of international business officials training bases of the Ministry of Commerce, the national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration higher vocational colleges, the member unit of the National Foreign Trade and Economic Education Committee, the vice president unit of the National Higher Vocational Research Association, the executive director unit of the China International Trade Society, the executive director unit of the China Foreign Trade and Economic Accounting Society, the national foreign trade industry outward-oriented talent training base, the national cross-border e-commerce talent training base, the national vocational college "intangible cultural heritage education inheritance demonstration base", the Hunan Province E-commerce Teaching Steering Committee Leading Unit, Hunan Province E-commerce Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, Hunan Province Tourism Education and Training Demonstration School. The school took the lead in establishing the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Vocational Education Industry-Education Alliance, the Hunan International Economic and Trade Vocational Education Group, the Hunan Province Cross-border E-commerce Industry-Education Alliance, the Hunan Vocational and Adult Education Society Foreign Economic and Trade Special Committee and other platforms. The school currently has 24 professors, 98 associate professors, and 258 teachers with master's degrees or above; 1 "Furong Scholar" Distinguished Professor, 1 National Technical Expert, 2 May 1st Labor Medals, and 2 provincial "Chu Yi" teaching masters. It has 6 provincial innovative teaching teams, 2 provincial excellent ideological and political work teams, 3 "Chu Yi" teaching studios, 2 "Chu Yi" workshops, and 17 provincial online boutique courses. In the past five years, teachers have won 91 provincial and national professional ability competition awards and 1 national teaching achievement award; more than 100 provincial and national key projects have been established, more than 120 provincial and national projects have been undertaken, and more than 110 papers in core journals such as SCI, EI, and CSSCI have been published. Since its establishment, the school has provided more than 100,000 talents in various business industries to the society, and has developed into a high-quality higher vocational college in the foreign trade industry, known as the "Cradle of Hunan Merchants". Outstanding alumni engaged in import and export trade, cross-border e-commerce, international logistics business, etc. are all over the country. The employment rate and employment quality of graduates are both at the forefront of higher vocational colleges in the province. For five consecutive years, the initial employment rate of graduates has reached more than 90%, and the satisfaction of employers has exceeded 95%. In the past five years, students have won 207 awards in various skill competitions, including 31 national-level awards and 176 provincial-level awards. The school actively responded to the national "Belt and Road" initiative and trained more than 10,000 people for developing countries and countries along the "Belt and Road", involving more than 120 countries and regions. It has implemented technical cooperation projects such as the Sudan Entuman Training Center and the Burkina Faso Vocational Education Training Center. It is the only university in the country that is qualified to undertake national foreign aid technical cooperation projects and one of the 13 vocational colleges in the province that are qualified to recruit full-time international students. The "China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Vocational Education Industry-Education Alliance" led by the school was included by the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government in the China (Hunan) Free Trade Pilot Zone to create a supporting mechanism for the pioneer zone of China-Africa economic and trade in-depth cooperation. The school was awarded the Outstanding Unit for China-Africa Education Cooperation and Cultural Exchange at the Fifth World Vocational Education Conference, and the International Economic and Trade Vocational Education Group was established as a provincial-level exemplary vocational education group.
