Hunan Institute of Technology is located in Yueyang, a national historical and cultural city and a national regional center city. It faces Yueyang Tower and is close to Dongting Lake. It is a provincial first-class university with science and engineering as the main disciplines, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, literature, economics, management, law, education, and art. It is a doctoral degree granting project construction unit in Hunan Province, the first batch of applied undergraduate planning universities for the national industry-education integration development project, a university planning university in Hunan Province, and a domestic first-class discipline construction university in Hunan Province. The school has a beautiful natural environment and a profound humanistic heritage. Its history can be traced back to Lakeside University in 1910. It currently has 18 teaching colleges and 1 independent college-Nanhu College, with 51 undergraduate majors, 10 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 13 master's professional degree authorization points, 1 domestic first-class construction discipline and 1 domestic first-class cultivation discipline, and 5 provincial key construction disciplines. The school currently has a campus area of more than 2,100 acres, more than 23,000 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students (including independent colleges), more than 1,500 faculty and staff, including more than 460 professors and associate professors, more than 400 master's tutors, more than 150 high-level talents such as experts with special government allowances from the State Council, members of the Expert Advisory Committee of Academicians of Hunan Province, candidates for the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, provincial science and technology leaders, provincial "outstanding young talents", provincial teaching masters, and "Hunan Youth Talents", 13 long-term high-level foreign teachers, and more than 30 flexibly introduced academicians, national "outstanding young talents" and other specially appointed professors. The school adheres to the principle of focusing on the foundation, solidly promotes the integration of industry and education, and collaborative education, and continuously improves its education and teaching capabilities. The number of undergraduate teaching "quality engineering" projects approved for establishment ranks among the top universities in the province, including 12 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 26 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 4 national characteristic majors, 9 provincial characteristic majors, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national off-campus practical education base for college students, and 32 provincial and ministerial practical teaching platforms. In addition, it has won 2 second prizes of national teaching achievement awards, 2 national professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 3 "industry-university cooperation professional comprehensive reform" projects of the Ministry of Education, 175 industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects of the Ministry of Education, 2 national new engineering projects, 3 provincial new engineering projects, 2 new liberal arts projects, 1 new agricultural project, 3 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, and 1 key promotion project for the construction of a strong education province. The school pays attention to the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and innovative ability, and has high quality of talent training. It has established cooperative relations with large state-owned enterprises, central enterprises and private enterprises, opened "order classes", and jointly established innovation, entrepreneurship and employment colleges with the government and enterprises. In the past five years, students have won 69 national college student innovation and entrepreneurship program projects, more than 1,300 awards in provincial and above subject competitions, and won first prizes in the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, the National Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National College Student English Speech Competition, and the National College Student Art Exhibition. In particular, in 2017, the university won 4 national first prizes in the National College Student Electronic Design Competition, ranking first among universities in Hunan Province and 13th in the country. The admission adjustment line, employment rate, and postgraduate admission rate of students are among the best in the province. The school actively meets the needs of the national innovation-driven development strategy, and the level of scientific research has been rapidly improved. There are 31 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including 1 key laboratory of China Machinery Industry, 5 key laboratories of Hunan Province, 2 provincial engineering research centers, 1 "2011 Collaborative Innovation Center" of provincial universities, 3 provincial engineering technology research centers, 6 provincial social science research bases, 1 provincial key research base of philosophy and social sciences of ordinary universities, 3 provincial industry-university-research demonstration bases of ordinary universities, 2 key laboratories of ordinary universities, and 1 Hunan Haizhi base. In the past five years, the university has presided over 42 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 25 National Social Science Foundation projects; won 38 provincial and above science and technology awards, including 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences Achievement Award, 1 first prize of the Hunan Science and Technology Award, and 1 first prize of the Hunan Social Science Achievement Award; the "Contemporary Academic History Research" column of the Yunmeng Journal was selected into the third batch of "Famous Column Construction" projects of the Ministry of Education. The school actively serves the regional economic and social development, and its social service capabilities are constantly enhanced. It has jointly built more than 30 high-level discipline platforms with local governments, industry enterprises, colleges and universities, and research institutes. In cooperation with Huaxiaxin Company, the "Heterogeneous Computing and Application Research Center" was established, making the school a member of the world's top chip alliance organization (HSA); integrating campus resources, flexibly introducing high-level experts from home and abroad to establish the Advanced Optics Research Institute, New Energy Research Institute, Organic Polymer Functional Materials Research Center, Large Logistics Research and Innovation Center, Machine Vision and Artificial Intelligence Research Center, 3D Printing Laboratory; and Shanghai Jianwei Group established the "Hunan Provincial Key Scientific Research Base for the Protection and Utilization of Cultural Relics and Buildings"; introduced high-level self-employed doctors and professors from the National University of Defense Technology to establish the "Military-Civilian Integration Research Institute" and "Hunan Provincial Emergency Communication Engineering Technology Research Center"; established a comprehensive cooperation framework agreement with local governments, and established the Hunan Yueyang Rural Development Research Center, Hunan Qu Yuan Culture Research Base, Yuezhou Kiln Industry-University-Research Base, Hunan Port Economic Research Institute, etc. The school has accelerated the process of internationalization of education, and the effectiveness of open education has been continuously improved. Since 1985, foreign teachers have been hired to teach and recruit and train international students. It has established friendly inter-school relations with universities in Russia, Germany, South Korea, Canada, the United States, Japan and other countries, implemented various types of undergraduate and master collaborative training programs such as "3+1+1" and "2+2", and carried out Sino-foreign cooperative education projects and joint training doctoral programs with Korean universities. More than 10 foreign teachers have won honors such as the "National Friendship Award", "Xiaoxiang Friendship Award" and "Hibiscus Award". Russian foreign teacher Vladimir Ganin was cordially received by President Xi Jinping twice. In addition, the school actively participated in the "Belt and Road" sports aid program, undertook sports training tasks in nearly ten countries, and was approved as the Hunan Province Foreign Sports Technology Training Reception Base. The school continues to consolidate its development foundation and its school conditions are improving. A library with a building area of 37,000 square meters, an experimental training center of 36,000 square meters, a sports and teaching complex building of 26,000 square meters, and a track and field stadium of 20,000 square meters have been built. The construction of experimental teaching equipment, books and materials, and smart campus has been continuously strengthened. Campus properties and student canteens have all been socialized.
