Hunan Open University is a new type of higher education institution organized by the People's Government of Hunan Province and supervised by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. It is committed to promoting lifelong learning, supported by information technology, and characterized by "Internet +". It provides academic education, non-academic education, and lifelong education public services to the whole province. The school was formerly the Hunan Radio and Television University founded in 1979. In December 2020, with the approval of the People's Government of Hunan Province, it was renamed Hunan Open University. The school implements a system of school-running. Under the "two-level coordination and four-level school-running" system of the National Open University, it performs the overall coordination responsibilities of open education in Hunan. It has 20 municipal and state (industry) colleges and 131 county-level learning centers. The school network covers urban and rural areas throughout the province. It is one of the provincial open universities with the most complete school-running system in the country. The school currently offers 51 undergraduate majors and 120 junior college majors in open education, with more than 150,000 students enrolled in open education. Hunan Network Engineering Vocational College is a public full-time general college established in 2003 with the approval of the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the resources of the Hunan Open University. It implements the "two brands, one team" management mechanism with Hunan Open University. There are more than 10,000 full-time students, 19 majors, and 2 Hunan Chuyi high-level vocational professional groups. The school has always taken serving the lifelong learning of all people as its own responsibility. It has successively built and operated more than 10 lifelong education public learning platforms such as "Hunan Cadre Education Network Training College", "Hunan Old Cadre (Old) Open University", "Hunan Learning Plaza", "Hunan Youth and Horse Online", "Hunan Old Science and Technology Association Lecture Hall", and "Credit Bank", providing the society with "Internet + Lifelong Education" services from offline to online, from cradle to crutches. There are more than 390,000 online students for cadres, more than 198,000 online students for the elderly, and more than 120,000 online students for Youth and Horse. The school has strong school-running strength and has a group of excellent teachers including experts who enjoy special government allowances from the State Council, experts who enjoy special allowances from the provincial government, national model teachers, national technical experts, and Furong teaching masters.
