The school’s predecessor was Hunan Top Information Vocational and Technical College established in 2001. In 2005, Hunan Software Vocational College was established with the approval of the Provincial People's Government and filing with the Ministry of Education. On June 29, 2020, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was upgraded to an undergraduate-level vocational school. On May 14, 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Hunan Software Vocational and Technical University. The school is located in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, Chairman Mao's hometown, covering an area of more than 900 acres. It currently has five colleges and two departments including the School of Software and Information Engineering, the School of Modern Design, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Architectural Engineering, the School of Communications, the Humanities Quality Teaching Department, and the Ideological and Political Theory Course Teaching Department. There are more than 15,000 students on campus, and there are 11 higher vocational undergraduate majors and 22 higher vocational junior college majors. There are currently 839 full-time teachers, including 517 with master's degrees, 281 with senior professional titles, and 420 "double-qualified" teachers. It has 1 national animation company, 1 national "Internet Marketer" training base, 2 Ministry of Education higher vocational education "Innovative Development Action" projects, 2 Hunan Province higher vocational education "Double High Plan" projects, 1 Hunan Province Higher Vocational Education First-Class Characteristics Major Group, 1 Hunan Province Chuyi High-level Vocational Undergraduate Major Group, 1 Provincial College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base, 1 Provincial Science and Technology Popularization Base, 1 Provincial Maker Space, 1 provincial-level mass entrepreneurship and innovation demonstration base, 1 provincial-level enterprise integrating industry and education, 1 municipal-level information industry talent training base, and 1 municipal-level engineering technology research and development platform. Since its establishment, the school has adhered to the direction of socialist education, fully implemented the Party’s education policy, insisted on cultivating people with moral integrity, and took root in Hunan to provide vocational education. It has worked hard and forged ahead for more than ten years and achieved remarkable results in running schools. The school has successively won the titles of a qualified university in the talent training evaluation of the Ministry of Education, an advanced unit in vocational education teaching management in Hunan Province, a model (backbone) higher vocational college in Hunan Province, a safe university in Hunan Province, a civilized university in Hunan Province, and a graduate from an ordinary university in Hunan Province. More than 30 major national, provincial and municipal honors have been awarded to the "Top Leader Project" for employment and entrepreneurship work, including the outstanding unit for supervision, the first-class characteristic professional group construction unit for higher vocational education in Hunan Province, and the outstanding collective for ideological and political work in Hunan Province. Teachers and students have won national and provincial awards. There are more than 2,000 city awards, honors, and achievements, including nearly 200 national awards.
