Hunan Jiaotong Engineering College, located in Hengyang, a famous historical and cultural city in China, is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Hengyang Zhongnan Technical School, founded in 1991, and was awarded the right to confer bachelor's degrees in 2018. After 32 years of construction and development, the school has formed a distinctive school-running characteristics and a comprehensive discipline pattern. The school currently has 10 secondary teaching and research units, including the School of Transportation Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Medical Technology and Nursing, the School of Humanities and Arts, the School of Marxism, the Department of Public Basic Courses, the High-tech Research Institute, and the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The school actively responds to the "Made in China 2025" and "Internet +" action plans, and takes the initiative to connect with local leading industrial clusters to set up majors to meet the talent needs of local economic development. There are 30 undergraduate majors, forming a discipline and professional system with engineering as the main subject, and coordinated development of management, medicine, economics, art, literature, etc. There are 2 provincial-level applied characteristic disciplines, 1 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot major, 5 provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points, and 23 provincial-level first-class courses. The school has built a dual-qualified and dual-capable teaching staff with doctors, professors, overseas innovative talents, and elites from enterprises and institutions as the main body. There are 1,225 faculty members, including 902 full-time teachers and 615 self-employed full-time teachers. There are 328 senior professional titles and 127 doctoral degrees; 4 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 4 national outstanding teachers, 10 outstanding teachers from Hunan Province, 6 Hunan New Century 121 talents, 15 young backbone teachers from Hunan Province, and 17 high-level talents from Hengyang City. In order to accelerate the construction of "Double First-Class", the school has set a precedent among universities across the country, established the school's "High-Tech Research Institute" with a high starting point, high level, and high standards, and hired more than 100 doctoral professors from the National University of Defense Technology to serve. There are currently 14,748 full-time students. The school covers an area of 1,265.43 acres, with a total building area of 438,700 square meters; the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 126.4126 million yuan; there are 1.2246 million paper books, 1.937 million electronic books, 1,022 paper journals, and 20 databases. The school has a large number of advanced experimental equipment and application software, a large-scale simulated traffic track simulation training field, and national-level training bases such as automobile inspection and maintenance, and electrical and electronic engineering. It has been approved for the construction of a provincial-level university student innovation incubation demonstration base; there are 9 various experimental (training) centers with advanced facilities and complete equipment, 6 provincial-level school-enterprise cooperation innovation and entrepreneurship education bases, and 6 innovation and entrepreneurship education centers; 109 off-campus internship and training employment bases have been built, which better meet the needs of undergraduate practical teaching. Since the school was upgraded to a university in 2014, it has approved 497 national and provincial projects, including one National Natural Science Foundation project and one key project of the National Education Science Planning; published 1,594 papers in academic journals such as SCI, EI, and CSSCI; teachers have obtained 192 authorized patents of various types, 281 software copyrights, and published 77 books and 143 textbooks. The school pays attention to the integration of scientific research results into teaching, and the discipline construction has achieved remarkable results. From 2020 to 2022, it undertook 62 provincial teaching reform research projects and 12 curriculum ideological and political construction research projects; and won 6 provincial teaching achievement awards. In April 2023, Chen Xingguang's teaching team won the first prize in the first National College Teacher Engineering Maker Teaching Ability Competition. The school attaches great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship education, strengthens the cultivation of talents' innovation ability through discipline competitions, and establishes the concept of entrepreneurship driving employment. The initial employment rates of undergraduate graduates in 2020, 2021, and 2022 were 83.38%, 91.13%, and 86.06%, respectively, all higher than the provincial average for undergraduate colleges. From 2020 to 2022, 58 national-level college student innovation and entrepreneurship training programs, 117 provincial-level programs, and 40 Ministry of Education industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects were approved; the pass rates for nurse qualification examinations were 99.14%, 100%, and 98.20%, respectively, higher than the provincial and national average pass rates. In the past three years, more than 35,600 college students have been organized to participate in discipline competitions at all levels, and 68 national competition awards have been won; among them, in 2021, the school won the gold medal in the "Intelligent +" track of the Intelligent Logistics Handling Competition (Intelligent Robot Project) of the China College Students' Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition, and the first prize in the National College Students' Electronic Design Competition. 419 provincial competition awards were won, including 74 first prizes. The school adheres to the school motto of "virtue, thinking, strength, and practice", strengthens the cultivation of applied talents, and the school-running level and quality of talent cultivation are generally recognized by the society.
