Yili Vocational and Technical College is a full-time public general higher vocational college established by the Ministry of Education. The college is located in Yining City, the capital of Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, which is known as the "South of the Great Wall". It focuses on cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents, undertakes the mission of establishing morality and educating people, and cultivates talents with good quality and strong skills. The predecessor of the college was the former Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Key Technical School-Yili Agricultural School, founded in 1955, the former National Ministry of Agriculture Key Secondary Vocational School-Xinjiang Yili Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School, founded in 1956, and the former Yili Prefecture Key Technical School-Yili Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Mechanization School, founded in 1965. In March 2002, it was merged and upgraded to form Yili Vocational and Technical College. In February 2019, the Yili Prefecture Sports School was fully incorporated, and in July 2023, the Yining Health School was fully incorporated to form the current scale. At present, the school covers a total area of about 1,030 acres. As the initiator, incubator and leader of Yili's higher vocational education, the college has condensed and formed the characteristics of "always taking the responsibility of stabilizing Xinjiang, enriching the people and consolidating the border, continuing to serve the rural revitalization and serving the economy and society, and cultivating high-quality technical and skilled talents". Over the past 68 years, generations of Yili Vocational College people have inherited the school motto of "good character and strong skills", carried forward the school spirit of "civilization, joy of learning, truth-seeking and upward", the teaching style of "dedication, love for students, good guidance and dedication" and the style of study of "hard work, initiative, diligence and enterprising", and have cultivated tens of thousands of various types of high-level professionals for Xinjiang's social and economic construction. The college currently has four campuses, including the East and West campuses on both sides of Shengli Road in Yining City, the North Campus on Xuefu Road, and the South Campus on the south bank of the Ili River. It has 9 directly affiliated teaching institutions, including the College of Animal Science, the College of Agricultural Engineering, the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the College of Information Technology, the College of Economics and Management, the College of Culture and Education, the College of Sports and Physical Education, the College of Marxism, and the College of Health and Health (it is the only secondary college with judicial appraisal qualifications in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region), as well as 8 functional departments, including the Party and Government Office, the Ideological and Political Work Office, the Organization and Personnel Office, the Academic Affairs Office, the Student Affairs Office, the Admissions and Employment Guidance Office, the Planning and Finance Office, and the Logistics Management Office. The college currently has 716 full-time faculty and staff, including 618 professional and technical personnel and 30 full-time coaches. Among the full-time teachers, 33.7% have doctoral and master's degrees, including 14 professors, 113 associate professors, 1 expert enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 1 national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" teaching master, 1 national secondary vocational model teacher, 1 Xinjiang "Tianshan Talent" leading expert, 1 Xinjiang outstanding expert with outstanding contributions, 1 autonomous region moral education backbone teacher, 2 autonomous region-level teaching masters, 2 autonomous region-level teaching experts, 2 autonomous region-level teaching teams in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine and plant protection and quarantine, and 1 autonomous region-level famous class teacher studio. There are currently more than 15,635 students. The college actively builds a "one body" (agriculture and animal husbandry) and "two wings" (processing and manufacturing, modern service) professional system that is compatible with the pillar industries of Ili Prefecture. It offers one "3+2" applied undergraduate major, 48 higher vocational majors and 19 secondary vocational majors, including plant protection, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, animal epidemic prevention and quarantine, horticultural technology, facility agriculture and equipment, electrical automation technology, electromechanical equipment technology, modern logistics management, tourism management, computer network technology, sports training, nursing, and medical laboratory technology. The college is the second batch of modern apprenticeship pilot schools of the Ministry of Education. There are three autonomous region-level specialty majors, including animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, horticultural technology, and plant protection and quarantine; two autonomous region-level boutique majors, nursing and medical laboratory technology; one autonomous region-level brand major, medical laboratory technology; 14 autonomous region-level boutique courses, including cattle breeding and cattle disease prevention, agricultural and forestry pest control technology, poultry breeding and poultry disease prevention, sheep breeding and sheep disease prevention, veterinary clinical diagnosis and treatment technology, animal nutrition and feed processing; At present, the college is actively building two high-level professional groups, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine and horticultural production technology, to drive the construction of tourism professional groups, information technology professional groups, financial services and other professional groups. The college has a high-quality practical teaching system, with 18 innovation platforms such as the Xinjiang Brown Cattle Research Institute and the Yili Horse Research Institute, 20 on-campus training bases, more than 180 off-campus training bases; and 171 various experimental (training) rooms.
