Jiangsu Normal University is a university jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. It is a high-level university in Jiangsu. The school was founded in Wuxi, Jiangsu in 1952. Lieutenant General Liu Xiansheng, who had made outstanding military achievements, was the first president. In 1956, it was officially included in the general higher education sequence for enrollment. In 1957, Jiangsu Normal College was established. In 1958, the school moved north to Xuzhou. In 1959, it merged with Xuzhou Normal College to form Xuzhou Normal University. In the early 1960s, the layout of universities across the country was adjusted. Premier Zhou Enlai instructed: "Xuzhou is a vast area and must have a university", so the school was retained. Since then, the school has taken root in northern Jiangsu, worked hard and developed gradually. In 1979, it began to recruit master's students, and in 1981 it became one of the first master's degree awarding institutions in the country. In 1984, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government established Xuzhou Normal College based on the former Xuzhou Teachers' Continuing Education College, and the school was merged into our school in 1989. In 1996, the school was renamed Xuzhou Normal University. In 1999, the Xuzhou Industrial School under the former Ministry of Coal was merged. In 2011, the school was renamed Jiangsu Normal University. Since its establishment, all teachers and students have adhered to the school motto of "respecting morality and learning, inspiring and acting quickly". After unremitting efforts, all undertakings have developed rapidly, and the comprehensive strength and international influence have been increasing. The school currently has four campuses: Quanshan, Yunlong, Kuiyuan, and Jiawang. It has 22 professional colleges, as well as Jingwen College, Continuing Education College, International College, and the first non-independent legal person Sino-Russian cooperative education institution approved by the Ministry of Education - Jiangsu Normal University St. Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic University Joint Engineering College, and an independent college, the School of Science and Culture. There are currently 59 undergraduate enrollment majors, 32 first-level discipline master's degree programs, 20 master's professional degree categories, 1 doctoral talent training program serving national special needs, and 1 postdoctoral research mobile station, covering 11 disciplines. It has the right to apply for master's degree awards with equivalent academic qualifications and the right to recommend master's students. There are 1,864 full-time teachers, including 381 senior professors and 684 associate professors. 63.8% of full-time teachers have a doctorate, and 39% have overseas study experience. The university has established a national Huang Danian-style teaching team, with 47 national high-level talents such as academicians and "Yangtze River Scholars". There are more than 21,100 full-time undergraduate students, 6,772 doctoral and master's students, and 338 international students in academic education. Since its establishment, the school has sent more than 200,000 graduates to the society, and a large number of alumni with outstanding achievements are active in various fields such as politics, economy, culture, science and technology, and education at home and abroad. The school received an excellent grade in the undergraduate teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2004, and passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education with high quality in 2015. The school was identified by the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission as the first batch of "National Language Commission Language and Character Application Training Bases" in the country, and the only "Classic Recitation Education" discipline (field) training institution in the country, and was awarded the "National Language and Character Standardization Demonstration School" and "National Language and Character Promotion Base". The university currently has 2 disciplines listed in the 2022 "Soft Science World-Class Discipline Ranking", and 10 disciplines listed in the 2023 "Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking", among which Chinese language and literature entered the top 12% of the 2023 "Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking".
