Jiangsu University is a key comprehensive university established in August 2001 by the Ministry of Education through the merger of the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Teachers College. It is a university jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as well as one of the first batch of high-level universities in Jiangsu Province, a national excellent university for undergraduate teaching, one of the first batch of 50 universities with typical experience in graduate employment, a national university with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, one of the first batch of universities with national quality certification for studying abroad in China, and a national pilot university for comprehensive reform of "three-dimensional education". The school has a history of 100 years and profound cultural heritage. The predecessor of the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Zhenjiang Agricultural Machinery College, was established in 1960 by Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) to implement Comrade Mao Zedong's important instructions that "the fundamental way out for agriculture lies in mechanization". The history of the school can be traced back to the Sanjiang Normal School founded by Liu Kunyi, Zhang Zhidong and others in 1902. As the first university in China to set up agricultural machinery majors and systematically carry out agricultural machinery education, the school insists on being based in Jiangsu and serving the industry. It has always taken the promotion of agricultural mechanization and modernization in my country as its mission, and has trained the first batch of undergraduates and masters in agricultural machinery and the first doctor and postdoctoral fellow in agricultural machinery in my country. It has made positive contributions to the cultivation of agricultural equipment talents and scientific and technological innovation in my country, and to the promotion of farmers' income, agricultural development and rural stability, and has formed a distinctive school-running feature and unique cultural sentiment of "industry has agriculture, and industry strengthens agriculture". More than 40,000 students, more than 14,000 postgraduates, more than 3,000 degree-granting international students, more than 1.2 million square meters of land, 1.38 billion yuan of various building areas, a total value of 3.3 million books in teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment, 11 advantageous disciplines of Jiangsu universities, 15 first-level doctoral programs, 45 first-level master programs, 21 master's professional degree categories, and 14 postdoctoral research mobile stations. The school has a high starting point for running schools, and its comprehensive strength has always been among the top 100 in the country. As early as 1978, the school was identified by the State Council as one of the 88 key universities in the country. In 1981, it became one of the first universities in the country with the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees. There are 34 teaching institutions and 97 undergraduate majors. There are more than 2,700 full-time teachers (43% have more than one year of overseas experience), which has gathered a group of high-level talents. There are more than 40,000 students, including more than 14,000 graduate students and more than 2,300 academic students (the proportion of graduate students is 54%). There are more than 11,000 full-time students at Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University. The campus covers an area of more than 3,000 mu, with a total building area of more than 1.2 million square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 1.38 billion yuan. The library has a building area of 51,000 square meters, a collection of 3.3 million books, subscribes to 116 databases of various types, and has built 11 special databases. It has a science and technology search station of the Ministry of Education, an agricultural equipment document resource center, and an international Pearl S. Buck document resource center. It has a tertiary-level A-class affiliated hospital integrating medical care, education, scientific research, and prevention. It has Jiangsu University Press and Magazine, which publishes nearly 3,000 books and hosts 11 international and domestic academic journals, including "Journal of Jiangsu University" (Nature Edition), "Journal of Jiangsu University" (Social Science Edition), and "Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Machinery Engineering" are national Chinese core journals, and "Higher Education Management" is a CSSCI source journal, a national Chinese core journal, and an important source journal for the reprint of Renmin University newspapers and periodicals. The school has a high level of education and a number of high-level disciplines. 14 disciplines, including engineering, materials science, clinical medicine, chemistry, agricultural science, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, environmental ecology, molecular biology and genetics, computer science, botany and animal science, general social science, physics, and immunology, are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI rankings worldwide, and 3 disciplines, including engineering, chemistry, and agricultural science, are ranked in the top 1‰. It has 2 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, and 11 advantageous disciplines of Jiangsu universities. It has 15 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 45 first-level discipline master programs, and 21 master's professional degree categories. There are 14 postdoctoral research mobile stations. The school adheres to the principle of learning as the center and the foundation, takes moral education as the fundamental task, promotes the all-round development of students' morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, and continuously improves the quality of independent talent training. In recent years, the school has won 11 national teaching achievement awards, and has formed high-quality teaching resources represented by 40 national first-class majors and a number of national characteristic majors, national first-class undergraduate courses, national modern industrial colleges, national experimental teaching demonstration centers, national excellent teaching teams, and national virtual teaching and research offices; the employment rate of graduates has remained above 96%; students have performed well in major national college student events, and have won the "Champion Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition for 8 consecutive sessions, and the National College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition has won double gold medals for 4 consecutive sessions. It has won 16 national science and technology achievement awards, 3 science and technology innovation awards from the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, 6 national outstanding youth fund projects, and 3 China Patent Gold Awards; it has a number of national science and technology innovation platforms such as the National Pump and System Engineering Technology Research Center, the National and Local Joint Engineering Center for Hybrid Vehicles, and the National Digital Agriculture Equipment Innovation Sub-Center; it has co-built the Zhenjiang National University Science and Technology Park with Zhenjiang City; and has established a national intellectual property training (Jiangsu) base. The Modern Agricultural Equipment and Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, which was led by the school, has been recognized as a provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center. The school insists on improving quality and efficiency, and continuously improves the level of education opening up in the new era. It has established long-term cooperative relations with 242 universities and research institutions in 64 countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Australia, and Japan. It has established a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution, the Jiangsu University Cranfield Graduate School of Future Technology, a cooperative education program in mathematics and applied mathematics, and has held 21 joint training programs with the University of Queensland, Australia, Macquarie University, and Northern Arizona University in the United States. The school has cooperated to build a number of international scientific research cooperation platforms, including the International Joint Research Center for Health Management of Key Structures of High-end Equipment, the International Joint Research Center for Energy-saving Technology of Fluid Engineering Equipment, the World Food Preservation Research Center, and the Innovation and Intelligence Base for High-end Fluid Machinery Equipment and Technology Disciplines.
