It is a public ordinary college directly under the Provincial Department of Education, a provincial high-quality higher vocational college, and a provincial "Double High Plan" project construction unit. The predecessor of the school was the Jiangxi Mechanical Industry School founded in 1958. In 1984, it was jointly run with the Jiangxi Mechanical Technical School. In 2000, the Nanchang Mining Machinery Research Institute was incorporated into the school. In 2002, it was upgraded to the Jiangxi Mechanical and Electrical Vocational and Technical College. The university currently has four campuses in Xialuo, Ganjiang New District, Qingyunpu, and Meiling, covering an area of 1,100 acres. Cooperated with the Economic Development Zone Management Committee and Xinwanda Electronics Co., Ltd. to jointly build Nanchang's first characteristic industry college in the new energy field-Lithium Battery Technology College. The three companies took the lead in establishing the "Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing City Industry-Education Consortium" to serve the high-quality development of the regional lithium battery industry. Jointly initiated with Jiangling Motors Group and East China Jiaotong University, it has joined forces with industry organizations, vocational colleges, scientific research institutions, upstream and downstream enterprises, and other parties to form the "National Automotive Equipment Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Community" to actively serve the development of the national automotive equipment manufacturing industry. Led by Jiangxi Shenzhou Information Security Assessment Center Co., Ltd. and East China Jiaotong University, the Jiangxi Provincial Network and Data Security Industry Industry-Education Integration Community was established in cooperation with more than 100 industry organizations, vocational colleges, scientific research institutions, upstream and downstream enterprises, etc. The school has carried out cooperative education with Malaysia, a country along the "Belt and Road", and jointly carried out vocational undergraduate education with Jiangxi Science and Technology Normal University, East China Jiaotong University, and East China University of Technology.
