Jiangyin Vocational and Technical College is a public general vocational college in Jiangyin, a beautiful and economically developed city in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Jiangyin, like a "crown" next to the rolling Yangtze River, is shining and eye-catching. The total economic volume of this modern riverside garden city has ranked first among the counties (cities) in Jiangsu Province for many years, and has achieved the "21 consecutive championships" in the basic competitiveness of the national county economy since 2003. At present, Jiangyin has 2,462 industrial enterprises above designated size, 61 listed companies, 9 of the top 500 Chinese enterprises, 12 of the top 500 Chinese manufacturing enterprises, 14 of the top 500 Chinese private enterprises, and 7 of the top 500 Chinese service enterprises. It is known as the "No. 1 County in China's A-shares" and "No. 1 County in China's Manufacturing Industry". The college, located in the garden city, has a beautiful environment, unique European-style buildings scattered in an orderly manner, and the Chinese garden-style bridges and flowing water form a beautiful picture of a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The college covers an area of 695 acres, with a construction area of nearly 210,000 square meters, and the total value of various teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is nearly 90 million yuan. The college has departments of mechanical and electrical engineering, environmental and materials engineering, electronic information engineering, computer science, art design, economic management, international trade, Marxism College, basic department, sports department, and continuing education college. The college currently has 469 staff members. There are 341 full-time teachers, including 10 doctors and 24 professors. There are also 156 part-time teachers, including 5 Jiangsu industrial professors. There are 2 excellent teaching teams of the "Qinglan Project" of Jiangsu colleges and universities, 1 excellent teaching team of Jiangsu Province, 1 "double-teacher" teaching team of vocational education in Jiangsu Province ("double-teacher" famous teacher studio), and 1 excellent scientific and technological innovation team of Jiangsu colleges and universities. It has opened 41 majors, of which electrical automation technology and modern textile technology are key majors supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance; clothing design and technology major is the backbone major of the “Action Plan for Innovation and Development of Higher Vocational Education (2015-2018)” project; mechanical manufacturing and automation technology professional group, software and service outsourcing professional group are key professional groups in Jiangsu Province; clothing design and technology professional group is a high-level professional group of higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province; electrical automation technology, computer network technology, clothing design and technology majors are high-level backbone majors of higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province, and modern textile technology major is a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province. In recent years, the college has actively participated in the joint construction of the Ministry and the Province to promote the reform and innovation of vocational education in the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan area, accelerate the construction of the modern vocational education system in Jiangsu Province, and actively connect with the modern vocational education system project of Jiangsu Institute of Technology in 2023, and develop the joint training project of "transfer from junior college to undergraduate" in the majors of automotive service engineering and tourism management and the "3+2" segmented training project of higher vocational and applied undergraduate majors in environmental engineering technology. As the executive director unit of the Jiangsu Higher Education Society and the vice chairman unit of the Jiangsu Higher Vocational Education Research Association, the college also has a central government-supported numerical control technology vocational education training base, a production training base for the "Innovation and Development Action Plan for Higher Vocational Education (2015-2018)" project (industrial Internet and advanced intelligent manufacturing industry-education integration training platform), Jiangsu Information Fusion Software Engineering Technology Research and Development Center, Jiangsu Clothing Training Base, Jiangsu International Service Outsourcing Talent Training Base, Jiangsu Software and Service Outsourcing Training Base and Intelligent Networked Industrial Motor Drive Engineering Technology R&D Center, directly serving the local economic transformation and social development. In 2022, the college was approved as a training unit of the Jiangsu Demonstration Vocational Education Group (Alliance), and in 2023, it was rated as a Jiangsu Social Science Popularization Demonstration Base. Based on the economic construction and social development of Jiangyin and the Yangtze River Delta, the college has vividly established the talent training goal of "based in Jiangyin, rooted in enterprises, and cultivating production, operation, and managers with the potential of "modern team leaders" or above for local economic and social development" from the perspective of lifelong development of students, and explored and formed a "two-dimensional interactive, dual-track parallel" talent training model. With well-known listed companies such as Heilan Group, Changdian Technology, and Xingcheng Special Steel, the modern apprenticeship system is promoted, and the school-enterprise deep integration co-cultivates talents. Together with the industry and enterprises, we will formulate talent training plans, and complete the training of "modern team leaders" through the in-depth cooperation between schools and enterprises by jointly compiling targeted project-based teaching materials and promoting the teaching model of "combining work and study, and on-the-job practice". At present, the college has established five industrial colleges, including Hailan E-commerce Industrial College, Wushifu Cloud Computing and Big Data Industrial College, Decoration and Renovation Industrial College, Haipeng Automobile Industrial College, and Ecological Environment Industrial College. Relying on the Department of Economics and Management, the Xu Xiake Tourism College has been established, which is committed to inheriting Xu Xiake culture and promoting Xu Xiake spirit. In the past five years, the college teachers have won 1 second prize of national teaching achievements, 1 provincial special prize of teaching achievements, 1 second prize of teaching achievements of China Petroleum and Chemical Education Association, 1 second prize of teaching achievements of China Textile Industry Federation, and 1 third prize; won 4 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 16 third prizes in provincial and above teaching competitions; participated in provincial and above micro-class competitions and won 4 first prizes, 17 second prizes, and 20 third prizes; and approved 12 provincial and above teaching reform projects and 14 "1+X" projects. Students won 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 1 third prize in the National Skills Competition, and 1 first prize, 20 second prizes and 32 third prizes in the Provincial Skills Competition. The college is based in the local area, actively undertakes the academic and scientific research innovation responsibilities of colleges and universities, and takes the initiative to serve the society. In the past five years, a total of 3 national scientific research projects and more than 160 provincial scientific research projects have been approved. More than 130 horizontal scientific research projects for enterprises have contributed to the scientific research, technological innovation, management improvement and market competitiveness of related enterprises. At the same time, we vigorously develop continuing education, actively build an overpass for lifelong education for Jiangyin citizens, and establish a lifelong education service platform where "everyone can learn, learn at any time and learn everywhere". At present, the School of Continuing Education has more than 7,800 students on the roll, with more than 8,000 training sessions and 200,000 hours of study per year. It has become a learning center for Jiangyin citizens, a training center for enterprises and institutions, a training center for service outsourcing talents and an examination center for Jiangyin informatization. The college's distinct orientation has attracted the attention and reflection of the Prime Minister on vocational and technical education. On March 26, 2004, the then Premier of the State Council, Wen Jiabao, and his delegation inspected the college and fully affirmed the college's orientation and characteristics: the vocational and technical college has taken the path of combining production, learning and research, directly serving economic construction and social needs, and has a bright future. In December 2007, the topic "Team Leader - Exploration and Practice of Talent Training Mode in Higher Vocational Colleges" won the first prize of Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award; in April 2009, the "Practice and Promotion of the 'Craft Single' Teaching Mode of Higher Vocational Clothing Design Major" derived from the "Team Leader" talent training won the second prize of Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award; in 2017, the college participated in the "Construction and Practice of the 'Modern Team Leader' Talent Training Mode under the Perspective of Positive Education" won the special prize of Jiangsu Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, and in 2018, the achievement won the second prize of the National Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award. The employment rate of college graduates has remained above 96% year after year, nearly 70% of graduates stay in southern Jiangsu for employment, and nearly 60% of graduates become modern team leaders and above management and technical talents in enterprises after working for 3-5 years, and 3%-5% of graduates start their own businesses and become bosses of entrepreneurial companies and enterprises.
