Jiaxing University is a provincial institution of higher learning with a long history and profound cultural heritage. It implements a management system of "co-construction and co-management by the province and the city, with the province as the main body". One of the predecessors of the school, Zhejiang Economic College, originated in 1914. In the following hundred years, it changed its site and name several times. It was successively affiliated with the Ministry of Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, and China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation. It is known as the "cradle" of economic management talents in China's nonferrous industry. In 2000, it merged with Jiaxing College to form Jiaxing College. Subsequently, Pinghu Normal School, Jiaxing Health School, Zhejiang Accounting School and Jiaxing Grain Cadre School were successively merged into Jiaxing College. In November 2023, the Ministry of Education agreed to rename Jiaxing College as Jiaxing University. Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, where the school is located, is located in the southeast coast and the center of the Yangtze River Delta. It has unique location advantages and active economic development. It is the starting point of the Red Boat of the Chinese Revolution, the birthplace of Jiangnan culture, the frontier position of connecting with Shanghai and integrating into the Yangtze River Delta, the permanent venue of the World Internet Conference, and the pioneer of promoting coordinated urban and rural development. It is accelerating the construction of an important central city in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, and striving to take the lead in promoting common prosperity and Chinese-style modernization. In March 2004, Comrade Xi Jinping, then Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, visited the school for inspection and guidance, and sent a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the school in August of the same year, requiring "to strive to make the school a comprehensive university with characteristics and good innovation, and cultivate more high-quality talents that meet the needs of economic and social development", which pointed out the direction and provided guidance for the development of the school. Over the years, the school has thoroughly implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, vigorously promoted the great spirit of party building and the Red Boat spirit, comprehensively served the implementation of national strategies and regional economic and social development, and continuously promoted characteristic development and innovative development. The university has two campuses, Lianglin and Pinghu, covering an area of more than 1,660 mu, with a building area of 608,000 square meters, teaching and research equipment with a total value of 659 million yuan, and a library with a paper collection of more than 2.38 million books and an electronic collection of more than 2.49 million books. It has 17 teaching institutions, 9 affiliated hospitals and 1 affiliated kindergarten. There are 59 undergraduate majors, covering 9 major disciplines such as economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art, and recruiting students from more than 30 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions) across the country. The school is a master's degree-granting institution, with more than 16,900 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates and international students, and more than 19,600 undergraduate and junior college students in academic continuing education. The school is a demonstration unit for the Party Building Work of Zhejiang Province, a demonstration school for the Construction of Clean Schools in Zhejiang Province, and a demonstration university for the pilot construction of applied construction in Zhejiang Province. It has been selected as a national model unit for greening, a national demonstration unit for energy-saving public institutions, a national leader in energy efficiency for public institutions, a safe campus in Zhejiang Province, and a civilized campus in Zhejiang Province. It has been ranked among the top universities of its kind in the classification evaluation of ordinary undergraduate universities by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education for many years. Professor Zhu Jingwu, a world-renowned physicist and former president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is the honorary president of the school, and Lu Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is the president of the school. There are more than 1,720 faculty members, including more than 1,180 full-time teachers and more than 730 teachers with doctoral degrees; there are 3 full-time academicians, 11 flexibly employed academicians, national specially-appointed experts, selected candidates of the "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program" of the Ministry of Education, selected young top talents of the National High-level Talent Special Support Program, selected theoretical talents of the "Propaganda Ideology and Culture Young Talents" of the Central Propaganda Department, and provincial "Qianjiang Scholars" specially-appointed professors and other high-level talents; there are 2 provincial key innovation teams, 4 provincial teaching teams; 1 expert selected for the provincial "Kunpeng Action" plan. Focus on key breakthroughs and strive to build a first-class discipline and professional layout. The school has 7 provincial first-class disciplines, and chemistry, engineering, materials science, and clinical medicine are in the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. It has 1 first-level discipline authorized for master's degrees and 2 master's professional degree authorization points. It has carried out joint training of graduate students in more than 40 first-level disciplines (professional degrees), and 18 joint training graduate students have graduated. It has 2 national characteristic majors, 1 major in the comprehensive reform pilot program of the Ministry of Education's "Undergraduate Teaching Project" for local colleges and universities, 5 majors that have passed the national professional certification (assessment), 6 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 10 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 1 major selected for the provincial teacher education innovation project. It has 1 national experimental teaching platform, 13 provincial experimental teaching platforms, and 2 provincial key support modern industrial college construction sites. Strengthen the moral education and strive to build a first-class talent training system. The school consciously inherits the red gene and keeps the red roots. It has built the Great Party-building Spirit Research Center and the Red Boat Spirit Research Center. It has been approved as the National College Ideological and Political Theory Teachers' Social Practice Training Base by the Ministry of Education, the Zhejiang Provincial Socialist Theoretical System Research Base, and the Zhejiang Provincial Education System Party Member Education Base. It has been selected as the Zhejiang Provincial Course Ideological and Political Demonstration School, the Zhejiang Provincial Key Marxist College Construction Unit, the First Batch of Pilot Units for the Construction of Zhejiang Provincial College Cultural Campus, and the Zhejiang Provincial "Three-dimensional Education" Comprehensive Reform Key Support Colleges and Universities. The red cultural education results won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education (Undergraduate) and the first prize for the National College Campus Culture Construction Outstanding Achievements. The original red drama "Original Heart" has been reported many times by CCTV's "News Network" and "Focus Interview". The school students have successively won the China Youth Volunteer Service Gold Medal, the Chinese University Student Self-improvement Star, three consecutive "Zhejiang Pride", Zhejiang Province's Top Ten College Students, Zhejiang Province's Outstanding Volunteers, Zhejiang Province's First Touching Campus Figures and other honors. The school actively connects with the development needs of industries and enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta region, and deeply promotes the integration of industry and education and school-enterprise cooperation. It has a number of scientific research and innovation carriers such as the China-Australia Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Research Institute, China Common Prosperity Research Institute, Zhejiang Yangtze River Delta Integrated Development Research Center, G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor Industry and Innovation Research Institute, Information Network and Intelligence Research Institute, Jiahua Energy Future Technology College, and China's Successive Painting Series Research Center. The school-enterprise cooperation education results have won 2 first prizes and 3 second prizes in Zhejiang Province Teaching Achievements. 172 school-enterprise cooperation projects have been identified by the Ministry of Education as national college industry-university cooperation and collaborative education projects. Many results have been selected as typical cases of the "Double Hundred Plan for School-Enterprise Cooperation" of the China Higher Education Society, and won the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Award in 2018.
