Jimei University is located in Xiamen, Fujian Province. It is a "double first-class" university in Fujian Province. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Transport and Fujian Province, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Fujian Province, Fujian Province and Xiamen City. It is a doctoral degree awarding institution and a master's degree recommendation institution. It is the only institution in the mainland approved by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport to carry out Taiwan seafarer competency training. The school started with the Jimei School Normal Department founded by the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee in 1918 and the Jimei School Fisheries Department and Business Department founded in 1920. It has a history of 105 years. In 1994, Jimei Normal College, Jimei Navigation College, Jimei Finance and Economics College, Xiamen Fisheries College, and Fujian Institute of Physical Education merged to form Jimei University. In 2004, the former Xiamen Industrial School was incorporated as a whole. The school takes "Sincerity and Perseverance" as its school motto. In the long-term practice of running schools, it adheres to the "Tan Kah Kee spirit to establish the school, sincerity and perseverance to cultivate people", and enjoys a wide reputation at home and abroad. The school established a board of directors in 1996. Xi Jinping, He Guoqiang, Chen Mingyi, Lu Zhangong, Huang Xiaojing, Wang Yifu and others have served as chairmen of the board of directors. The current board of directors consultants are Jia Qinglin and Chen Yongzai. From 1999 to 2002, General Secretary Xi Jinping served as the chairman of the board of directors of Jimei University while serving as the governor of Fujian Province. He visited the school 7 times to guide the work and put forward a series of important instructions, laying a solid foundation for the development of Jimei University and pointing out the direction for future reform and development. The school has 20 colleges and more than 30,000 students, including more than 27,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 3,100 graduate students, and nearly 200 international students. There are about 1,500 full-time teachers, 13 academicians (including 2 full-time), 44 national high-level talents, 266 provincial and ministerial high-level talents, and 365 municipal and departmental high-level talents. The school has a relatively complete range of disciplines, covering 10 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, management, art, and interdisciplinary disciplines. Three disciplines, namely botany and zoology, engineering, and agricultural science, are among the top 1% of ESI globally. There are currently 4 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 15 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, and 19 master's professional degree authorization points (categories). It has 8 first-level key disciplines in Fujian Province (including 2 characteristic key disciplines), and 2 postdoctoral research mobile stations in aquatic products and ship and ocean engineering. Ship and ocean engineering and aquatic products were selected as the main disciplines of the "Double First-Class" construction universities in Fujian Province, and the ship and ocean engineering discipline group and the aquatic products and food engineering discipline group were selected as peak disciplines in Fujian Province. The shipping and port logistics discipline group, the regional economy and management discipline group, the Fujian-Taiwan sports and culture discipline group, and the mathematics and physics discipline group were selected as plateau disciplines in Fujian Province. The school currently has 75 undergraduate majors, including 4 national specialty majors, 25 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 6 national "excellent" talent training plan majors, 3 national professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 4 Ministry of Education engineering education certification majors, 6 Ministry of Education second-level certification of teacher majors, 24 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 11 provincial specialty major construction sites and provincial comprehensive reform pilots, 8 provincial service industry specialty majors, and 6 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors. It has 1 national teaching team, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 national off-campus practice education base for college students, 12 provincial teaching teams, 16 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 4 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. As an important base for cultivating senior maritime talents in my country, the school has the world's largest teaching practice ship, the "Yude" ship, with a total load of 64,000 tons. The university currently has 1 national key laboratory (co-built), 2 national and local joint engineering research centers, 19 provincial (ministerial) scientific research innovation platforms and humanities and social science research bases, 5 provincial collaborative innovation centers, 2 provincial university characteristic new think tanks, 21 provincial university innovation platforms/research bases, and 10 provincial university science and technology innovation teams. It has successively undertaken a number of national key projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology (including the former National 973 Project, the National 863 Project, the National Key R&D Program Project, etc.), key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, key projects of the National Social Science Foundation, and other national research tasks, and its research results have won 146 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards or above. With the advantages of "gonghai", the university has continuously expanded the forms and fields of social services, actively contributed to the national and local social construction and development, and established industry-university-research cooperation with nearly a thousand enterprises and institutions. The school actively promotes the opening up of education in the new era, gives full play to the locational advantages of Xiamen, the core area of the "Maritime Silk Road", actively serves the national "Belt and Road" initiative and participates in the construction of the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Base. It has been awarded the BRICS Demonstration Unit and selected as the first director unit of the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Base Industry Innovation Alliance. It has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 130 well-known universities and research institutions around the world, and has carried out academic exchanges and cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), the International Association of Navigational Aids (IALA), etc., and established the Jimei University ASEAN Education Center in Bangkok, Thailand. It has been approved for 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, and has trained more than 6,000 graduates in 16 sessions so far; innovatively carried out the joint training of international talents in the "Belt and Road" between schools and enterprises, and has completed the first talent training program in Africa (Angola). The school is a strategic partner unit of the Ministry of Education (China) Study Abroad Service Center. It is one of the earliest institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit students from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese and foreign students. It is the enrollment unit of the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship for Overseas Students and the Xiamen Chen Jiageng Scholarship, the Taiwan Youth Study and Tourism Base of Fujian Province and Jimei District, and the funding unit of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's "Youth Mainland Two-way Exchange Program". It is one of the first "Overseas Chinese Education Bases" in Fujian Province. The school covers a total area of 2,344 acres, with a building area of about 1.03 million square meters. The campus buildings have distinctive characteristics. There are 8 Jiageng buildings that are national key cultural relics protection buildings. The new campus building complex won the "100 Classic and Excellent Projects for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of New China". The school has a 10,000-gigabit high-speed campus network. The library currently has a collection of more than 3.41 million paper documents, nearly 1,000 Chinese and foreign paper journals, more than 14 million electronic books, and more than 30,000 electronic journals. 65 Chinese and foreign databases have been introduced, and 5 self-built special databases have been built.
