Jining University is a provincial full-time general undergraduate college located in Qufu, a world-famous historical and cultural city, the birthplace of Confucian culture, the hometown of Confucius, and the holy city of the East. The school can be traced back to the Teng County District Cadre Cultural Tutorial School founded in 1951. Its predecessor was Jining Normal College. In March 2007, it was upgraded to Jining University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In November 2008, the century-old Qufu Normal School, founded in 1905, was fully incorporated. The school is rooted in the hometown of Confucius and Mencius, bathed in the Confucian style of the holy land, and adheres to the school motto of "extensive learning, firm determination, and good conduct". It has formed the school spirit of "utmost sincerity, simplicity, truth-seeking and innovation", the teaching style of "tireless teaching, moral integrity and learning", and the style of study of "never tired of learning, asking questions and thinking deeply". The school adheres to the school-running philosophy of "student-oriented, teacher-first, and serving the local area", focuses on the goal of building a high-quality applied university, adheres to the school-running path of industry-education integration and school-enterprise cooperation, vigorously implements undergraduate teaching quality and teaching reform projects, and strives to improve the quality of applied talent training. For decades, the school has trained more than 100,000 qualified talents for the party and the country, and has made important contributions to the local economic and social development. The school is endowed with unique Confucian culture and red cultural resources. The campus of the School of Primary Education (formerly Qufu Normal School) is located in the ancient city of Qufu, facing the Confucius Temple to the west and the Confucius Mansion to the north. It has a unique geographical location and a superior humanistic environment. In 1926, the earliest CPC organization in southwestern Shandong was established on campus, the CPC Shandong Provincial Second Normal School Branch. In 1929, progressive teachers and students staged the anti-feudal historical drama "Zi Jian Nan Zi" that shocked the country. In 1931, the event of organizing teachers and students from seven schools in southern Shandong to intercept a car in Yanzhou and demand to go south to petition for anti-Japanese resistance shocked the whole country. Chu Tunan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National People's Congress and former Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, once taught here. Wan Li, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress and former Vice Premier of the State Council, once studied and engaged in revolutionary activities here. He Jingzhi, former Acting Minister of the Ministry of Culture and famous poet, and Wu Boxiao, famous writer, once studied here. The school covers an area of 1,721 acres, and the school building area is 601,800 square meters. There are currently 24,947 full-time undergraduate and junior college students. There are 19 teaching units, 50 undergraduate majors and 22 junior college majors, covering 9 major disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. The library currently has 2.003 million paper books, more than 1.0891 million electronic books, 2.5756 million electronic journals, and 42 electronic resource databases. The school has complete modern teaching facilities and experimental equipment, with a total value of 1.8.3 billion yuan. The school's "smart campus" construction has distinctive characteristics, and its education and teaching informatization and intelligent construction are among the top universities in Shandong Province. It was awarded the first "Smart Campus Construction Demonstration School" in the country by the China Educational Technology Association. The "5G+Smart Education" project was selected as an application pilot by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the "Smart Classroom" construction results were rated as a typical case of informatization application by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education, and were selected as the third batch of Shandong Province Smart Education Demonstration Zone (School) Creation Unit. Focusing on the cultivation of applied talents, the school actively adapts to the needs of industry and regional economic and social development, adjusts and optimizes the professional structure, and forms a discipline and professional system with outstanding advantages in teacher education and distinctive characteristics of applied disciplines. The school actively connects with Shandong Province's "Top Ten" industries, Jining City's strategic emerging industries and traditional advantageous industries, and has concentrated on creating 11 high-level applied majors (groups), including chemical engineering, electromechanical, information, finance, biology, materials, and teacher education. Among them, chemical engineering and technology, mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, and bioengineering majors (groups) are high-level applied project construction majors (groups) in Shandong Province, and the food science and engineering major has been approved by the Ministry of Education for Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. There are 8 provincial specialty majors, 8 provincial first-class majors, 2 provincial outstanding talent training program pilot majors, and 2 provincial applied talent training professional development support plan project majors. There are 14 provincial first-class courses, 24 provincial quality courses, 24 provincial college course alliance online courses, and 1 provincial course ideological and political demonstration course. The school integrates innovation and entrepreneurship education into the whole process of talent training, and has built 569 off-campus practical teaching bases. Since 2020, our students have performed well in provincial and above subject competitions, innovation and entrepreneurship, science and technology culture competitions, and formed a strong atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship. Since 2020, 119 national and provincial and ministerial scientific research projects have been approved; 728 papers have been published, including 512 core journals, 409 papers included in SCI, EI, SSCI, etc.; a total of 85 PCT international patents and Chinese invention patents have been authorized. In 2022, the Nature Index ranking entered the top 200 universities in mainland China, and universities in the province ranked 15th. From 2020 to date, more than 600 industry-university-research cooperation agreements or technical contracts have been signed with industry enterprises such as Jining Energy Development Group, Donghong Group, Hengxin Group, Focus Freda, and Jingdao Microelectronics.
