Jinling Institute of Technology is located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties. It is a public full-time general undergraduate college with the mission of cultivating high-quality applied talents. It is a strategic research unit of the pilot reform of applied science and technology universities of the Ministry of Education, a founding unit of the China University of Applied Technology (College) Alliance, and the chairman unit of the Alliance of Applied Undergraduate Universities in the Yangtze River Delta. It was approved as a master's degree awarding institution in 2021. The predecessor of the school was Jinling Vocational University, the first full-time urban vocational university in New China established in 1980, and Nanjing Agricultural College established in 1958 and rebuilt in 1984. In June 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the provincial and municipal governments, the two schools merged to prepare for the establishment of Jinling Institute of Technology, which was officially established in March 2005. The school currently has three campuses in Jiangning, Mufu, and Baixia, and the main campus is located in Jiangning University Town. The school covers a total area of 1.0164 million square meters, with a total school building area of 657,200 square meters, and the original value of fixed assets is 2.872 billion yuan, of which the value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 574 million yuan. There are more than 20,000 full-time undergraduate students and more than 60 postgraduate students. There are 20 secondary colleges (departments) including the School of Marxism, School of Business, School of Humanities, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Intelligent Science and Control Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Software Engineering, School of Computer Engineering, School of Electronic Information Engineering, School of Network and Communication Engineering, School of Network Security, School of Art, School of Animation, School of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, School of Animal Science and Food Engineering, School of Materials Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Education, School of Science, and Department of Physical Education. There are currently three professional master's degree authorization points, including electronic information, civil engineering and water conservancy, and accounting. There are 66 undergraduate majors in seven major disciplines, including economics, literature, engineering, agronomy, management, art, and science. Urban and rural planning, software engineering, horticulture, business administration, and design are "provincial key disciplines", and 15 disciplines such as applied economics and computer science and technology are "municipal key disciplines" (including 2 cultivation disciplines). The accounting major is a national characteristic specialty construction site, and 8 majors including software engineering, clothing and apparel design, accounting, tourism management, building electrical and intelligent, animation, computer science and technology, and environmental design are national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. 23 majors including materials science and engineering, electronic information engineering, veterinary medicine, and classical literature are provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites. Software engineering, animation, accounting, building electrical and intelligent are provincial brand first-phase engineering majors, and 4 majors including machinery, civil engineering, business administration, and design are provincial key majors. Accounting, clothing design and engineering, animation, mechanical design, manufacturing, and automation are provincial characteristic majors. Materials science and engineering is a pilot major of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, and communication engineering and software engineering are pilot majors of the provincial Excellent Engineer (Software) Education and Training Program. Materials science and engineering and architecture are provincial Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program 2.0 professional construction sites. Six majors, including accounting, tourism management, software engineering, clothing and apparel design, animation, building electrical and intelligentization, are provincial brand professional construction and cultivation points for industry-education integration. 14 courses have been selected as national first-class undergraduate courses, 36 courses have been recognized as provincial first-class undergraduate courses, and 3 courses have been approved as provincial first-class courses for industry-education integration. There are currently 2 pilot projects for comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education, 5 provincial excellent teaching teams, 1 provincial excellent grassroots teaching organization, 1 provincial excellent scientific and technological innovation team, 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial higher education talent training model innovation experimental base, 1 provincial key industry college construction point, 5 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 4 provincial practical education centers (including construction points).
