Kunming Medical University is a provincial key university. Its predecessor was the Medical Specialty of Donglu University founded in 1933. It was established as an independent school in 1956. In 1981, it became one of the first institutions in the country to award master's degrees. In 1998, it became a doctoral degree awarding institution. In 2010, Yunnan Medical College was incorporated. In 2012, it was renamed Kunming Medical University. It is one of the first batch of basic capacity building engineering colleges in central and western China. Over the past 90 years, more than 100,000 full-time and more than 100,000 part-time senior medical and health talents have been trained to take root in the frontier and serve the grassroots, making outstanding contributions to Yunnan's health and health cause, economic and social development, national unity and progress, and prosperity and stability in the frontier. The school currently has three campuses: Chenggong (main campus), Renmin West Road, and Pingzheng, with a campus area of 1,487 acres. There are 10 national first-class majors, 4 national characteristic majors, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national clinical teaching and training demonstration center, 13 national first-class courses, and 3 national course projects; there are 6 provincial first-class disciplines, including 2 provincial key construction disciplines, 6 provincial first-class majors, 35 provincial first-class courses, and 8 provincial teaching teams. Four majors, namely, stomatology, pharmacy, clinical medicine, and nursing, have passed the relevant professional certification of the Ministry of Education, and three majors, namely, rehabilitation physical therapy, rehabilitation occupational therapy, and prosthetic orthopedic engineering, have passed international certification. There are 5 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 8 first-level master's degree authorization points, and 7 master's professional degree authorization points. Five postdoctoral research mobile stations have been established in clinical medicine, basic medicine, pharmacy, stomatology, and public health and preventive medicine. Five disciplines, namely, clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, neuroscience and behavior, biology and biochemistry, and molecular biology and genetics, have entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. The school has won 7 national science and technology awards and 17 ministerial science and technology awards. "Journal of Kunming Medical University" is a national core science and technology journal. The school has established a complete practical teaching network consisting of 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 19 teaching hospitals, 47 internship hospitals, 20 community practice teaching bases and 76 relevant professional practice teaching bases to fully meet the students' practical teaching needs. The first and second affiliated hospitals are "Grade 3 Class A" general hospitals, the third affiliated hospital is the highest-level "Grade 3 Class A" tumor hospital in Yunnan Province, and the affiliated stomatological hospital is the highest-level stomatological hospital in Yunnan Province.
