Lanzhou Petrochemical Vocational and Technical University is located in the geometric center of China's land territory and the beautiful bank of the Yellow River - Jincheng Lanzhou. The school was born with the first modern refinery and the first chemical industrial base in New China. Its history can be traced back to the Lanzhou Petroleum School of the Ministry of Petroleum and the Lanzhou Chemical School of the Ministry of Chemical Industry, as well as Lanlian Workers University and Lanhua Workers University, which were founded in 1956. In 1999, it was transformed into the first independent public higher vocational and technical college in Gansu Province. In May 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school resources of relevant colleges and universities were integrated to set up the public undergraduate-level Lanzhou Petrochemical Vocational and Technical University. The school has Xigu Campus, Lanzhou New District Campus, and Baiyin Campus, covering an area of more than 2,600 acres, with an average value of 20,100 yuan per student for teaching and scientific research equipment, and more than 2.6 million books. There are 85 on-campus training bases and 238 off-campus training and internship bases, including 6 national-level production-oriented training bases and 1 national-level virtual simulation center. The school currently has more than 28,000 full-time students, including 800 undergraduate students in the first year. There are 1,210 faculty and staff, including 1,106 full-time teachers, 480 teachers with senior professional titles (113 professors, including 6 second-level professors, and 10 teachers who enjoy the Gansu Province High-level Professional and Technical Talents Allowance), 580 teachers with master's degrees or above (48 doctors), 650 "dual-qualified" teachers, and 350 part-time teachers. Among them, there are 4 national demonstration majors, 10 backbone majors, 2 majors in the national higher vocational school project to enhance the development capacity of professional service industries, and 18 provincial demonstration, characteristic, and backbone majors. A professional layout system that effectively supports the national pillar industries and regional economic and social development has been established, and an important training base for high-quality technical and skilled personnel in petrochemicals such as petrochemicals, natural gas chemicals, and coal chemicals has been built. The school has won 1 first prize for national teaching achievements, 14 provincial teaching achievement awards, 1 national boutique course, 1 national course ideological and political demonstration project, and 25 national planning textbooks. The school has taken the lead in hosting a national-level vocational education professional teaching resource library. It has won 83 national awards in various college student competitions. The employment rate of graduates exceeds 98%. While maintaining a high employment rate, it has achieved the "five highs" employment quality work goals of high professional matching rate, high starting salary, high growth, high employment stability and high employment satisfaction. The school has trained more than 210,000 construction talents represented by Iron Man Wang Jinxi, and a large number of outstanding alumni have emerged, including representatives of the 18th and 19th National Congresses of the Communist Party of China, great craftsmen, and Zhang Hengzhen, chief technician of Sinopec Group. Graduates are spread across the country's petrochemical enterprises and the main battlefield of local economic construction. The school has signed school-enterprise cooperation agreements with more than 200 large-scale enterprises such as CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC. The school and enterprises have jointly built 12 R&D institutions and 12 industrial colleges, forming a community of shared destiny between the school and the enterprise. In the past five years, the university has undertaken 539 scientific research projects at or above the department level, including 16 at or above the provincial and ministerial level; won 22 scientific research awards at or above the provincial level, including 1 second prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education; published 2,632 academic papers, obtained 27 invention patents, and 471 utility model patents and software copyrights. There are more than 100 international students from Pakistan, Laos, Indonesia and other countries. The international cooperative education project with the Dutch College of Canada in accounting has been approved by the Ministry of Education for enrollment, opening a precedent for international cooperative education in vocational education in Gansu Province.
