Leshan Normal University was founded in 1978. In March 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the former Leshan Normal College and Leshan Education College were merged and upgraded to a provincial general undergraduate college in Sichuan Province. In 2012, it was included in the "Eastern Universities Support Western Universities Plan" of the Ministry of Education, and Wuhan University provided counterpart support for its construction. Since 2016, it has become a project construction unit for the awarding of master's degrees in Sichuan Province, and was listed as a "priority cultivation" unit in 2020. In 2023, it was included in the list of "Double First-Class" disciplines in Sichuan Province. The school has 15 teaching colleges and 62 undergraduate majors, covering ten major disciplines of literature, history, science, engineering, education, economics, management, law, agriculture, and art. The discipline of forestry was selected as a discipline in the Gongga Plan for the "Double First-Class" construction of higher education institutions in Sichuan Province. The school is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with a strong scholarly atmosphere. It covers an area of more than 1,150 acres and a construction area of 433,000 square meters. The Suji campus is planned to be built in the beautiful Suji Ancient Town University Town with an area of 1,100 acres and a construction area of 350,000 square meters. The library has a collection of more than 1.77 million paper books (periodicals), more than 9.59 million electronic books (periodicals), 61 databases, and a total value of teaching and research equipment of 248 million yuan. There are more than 19,000 full-time undergraduate and junior college students, nearly 100 international students, more than 1,500 faculty and staff, more than 400 senior professional titles, nearly 1,200 doctoral and master's degree holders, 2 national outstanding teachers, 2 provincial famous teachers, 4 provincial teaching masters, 1 provincial four-good teacher, 6 experts enjoying government subsidies from the State Council, 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan Province, 6 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 23 reserve candidates for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, and nearly 60 top talents in Leshan City. More than 130 teachers have served as doctoral and master's tutors in universities such as Wuhan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwest University, Sichuan Normal University, Xihua University, and China West Normal University. Our university currently has 2 provincial key research bases for philosophy and social sciences, 2 provincial popularization bases for social sciences, 2 provincial key laboratories, 1 provincial high-level research team for social sciences, 1 provincial engineering technology research center, 1 provincial new R&D institution, 1 provincial key research base for heritage tourism, 4 provincial key laboratories, 6 provincial key research bases for humanities and social sciences, 2 provincial engineering research centers, 15 municipal research institutions and 31 school-level research institutions. Since its promotion to university, it has been approved for 71 national projects such as the National Philosophy, Social Sciences and Natural Science Foundation, and more than 400 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects; 354 provincial, ministerial and municipal scientific research awards, including 44 Sichuan Provincial Social Science Outstanding Achievement Awards (including 1 first prize), 3 ministerial social science outstanding achievement awards, 9 Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Awards (including 3 second prizes), 3 Liang Xi Forestry Science and Technology Progress Awards (including 2 second prizes); published more than 4,000 SCI, SSCI papers and domestic core journals in international journals such as Nature. The university has outstanding characteristics in the fields of Guo Moruo research, Su Shi research, teacher education, special education, forest and bamboo resource development and utilization, world heritage protection and tourism research, silicon material and new energy technology application, social governance, Internet natural language intelligent processing, waste resource utilization, etc. Our university has extensive international exchanges and cooperation, and has established friendly cooperative relations with 51 foreign higher education or research institutions such as Palacky University in the Czech Republic, California State Polytechnic University in the United States, Swansea University in the United Kingdom, and Sunshine Coast University in Australia, and jointly carried out teacher-student exchanges, joint training, scientific research cooperation, think tank construction and other activities.
